Aachen fine cloth

Created by RAJIVVASUDEV (talk). Self-nominated at 11:53, 20 December 2022 (UTC).

  • New enough (but created on 15 December, not 20 December), long enough (just), QPQ done, no picture. There are however some problems. Firstly, policy-wise: there are some quite bold claims in this article, such as "During the late Middle Ages, Aachen was Europe's most important industrial center for making woolen cloths." This claim is not supported by an inline citation and is very controversial; several places in Flanders, Italy and perhaps England and Spain could make a probably more forceful claim to that. There is also nothing in the sources I can access to support this claim. Similarly, "The name "Aachen quality" was known all over the world for these fabrics" seems to be a distortion of "The worldwide reputation of Aachen quali¬ ty lies behind these original fabrics, produced in plain weave constructions from fine carded yarns based on very fine merino wools and finished with a fine closely napped surface." from the Encyclopedia of Textlie Finishing, which in this context simply seems to suggest very high quality cloth. By the way, speaking of anything as being "world famous" in the Middle Ages seems anachronistic. I think the article needs a stylistic overhaul to calm down the text somewhat and make sure it reflects the sources more clearly. Then there is the hook: it is a good one, but unfortunately not directly supported by an inline citiation. So there is still some work to be done here. Let me know when you have addressed these issues. I hope you do, as I like the article and appreciate the effort to bring attention to the subject. Hello @Yakikaki, I have made the corrections as per the comments. Further, I am also adding ALT1 and ALT2. Kindly see if they suffice. Regards RV (talk) 03:59, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Hello @RAJIVVASUDEV, good work! I think the whole article improved a lot. I can now confirm and approve the original hook as well as ALT1, but not ALT2 as the sentence that the cloth is napped is not supported by an inline citation of its own. But the other hooks are fine. It should now be good to go. Kind regards, Yakikaki (talk) 19:38, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

As requested at DYK talk, I've pulled this from the queue. Discussion whether this is eligible can continue. Schwede66 17:27, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
