  • Comment: I like this one, but I'm also a cue sports editor. Still, it's unusual and interesting, and all of cue sports combined is lucky to get more than maybe one DYK per year. — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  10:12, 6 December 2023 (UTC)
  • Comment: This is an incredible achievement and should have been included in the "In the news" section. It should at least get a mention in DYK.  Alan  (talk) 10:36, 7 December 2023 (UTC)
  • article is not eligible for DYK. It was created in late October in the main space, was not recently 5x expanded and was not a new GA. The nomination is also improper, as Lee Vilenski did not create the article. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:42, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
    • This is my first DYK nomination, as a search should quickly prove, and, therefore, I may well have not done everything correctly. I put Lee Vilenski as the creator as he edited the article and included the entry that is in line with this nomination. You are correct to say that the article was created in October, however, the tournament itself didn't start until late November, and the final was not played until 3rd December (the nomination was raised the day after the final was completed when we knew Ronnie O'Sullivan had won). Personally, I think the 5x expansion is far too excessive and too narrow, especially for items such as this, and believe some leeway should be granted by reviewers, or the criteria changed to allow the number of edits to be taken into account as well (the edit count on the article is approaching 1,000). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Steveflan (talkcontribs) 09:31, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
      • I'm not quite sure why DYKcheck is saying the 5x expansion is 41 days ago; as best I can determine, the article is currently at 18770 prose characters, putting the start size for a 5x expansion at 3754 or or fewer prose characters. The article increased from 3630 prose characters at the end of November 21 to 4108 at the end of November 22, so the expansion is counted as beginning from November 21. This means it was nominated seven days late, not thirty-four. That may still be considered too long, but it is just at the outer limit of lenience for a first-time nominator; Steveflan, you can request the extra days at WT:DYK. (Two days is automatic; seven needs consensus.) Gonzo_fan2007, the nomination is not rendered improper by giving creation credit to Lee Vilenski; it's easy enough to fix it right now by giving said credit to AmethystZhou as creator, but also a major contributor credit (in the form of DYKmake templates) to AIH42, and possibly also Lee Vilenski and HurricaneHiggins for their late work on the article (I've made the modification to include AmethystZhou and AIH42 rather than Lee Vilenski; I'll let someone else decide whether Lee and/or HurrianceHiggins and/or anyone else should be added). If this nomination is ultimately rejected, the article could be nominated to be a good article at WP:GAN when it qualifies; if it passes, then as long as it's nominated again at DYK within seven days after passage, it's automatically eligible. • BlueMoonset many thanks for your comments, as well as those by User:Gonzo_fan2007. As I have said previously, this is my first DYK nomination and, as such, I'm not wholly convinced that the instructions surrounding DYK nominations are as clear as they possibly could be - especially for first-time nominators such as myself. Looking at the wikilink you kindly provided (WT:DYK), there appears to be a myriad of additional pages and links regarding the nomination process, which do appear very daunting for first-time nominators, especially those of us who could be classed as very part-time editors. Whilst I fully understand the need to have guidelines, etc, so as not to overwhelm reviewers it does still feel a bit of a formidable process, especially for a fact that I personally, as a cue-sports supporter, believe is quite interesting and unique, not just from a cue-sports perspective but also an overall sporting perspective - I'm sure there are not many sportspeople who can claim to be both the youngest and oldest winner in the history of a tournament. In light of this, I am requesting that this nomination be withdrawn for now and I will keep a look out for when the article gains good article status and re-submit then. Thank you both for taking the time to comment on this nomination - it is appreciated.Steveflan (talk) 19:48, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
