A gap between 1992 and 2000[edit]

There should be an explanation on why Zola failed 1992 Olympic Games, despite her relatively young age of 26. As a world-class runner, she was expected to compete at least by 2000 when she was 34. It is central to the entry to know why she did not compete in Olympics after 1992. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikieditjust (talkcontribs) 05:27, 10 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Ambiguous description of controversial 1984 3000-m race[edit]

Shortly after telling of Budd's grazing injury from a spike in Mary Decker's running shoe (which "came down hard" into Budd's ankle), the race description continues, "Decker stood on Budd, then shortly after, collided with" her. What does "stood on Budd" mean? Does it mean that Decker again stepped on a lower extremity of Budd's? If so, the passage ought to be reworded. (After all, the runners were running, not standing.) Or does it refer simply to Decker's misstep into Budd's ankle, already mentioned in the description? If so, why is that misstep mentioned a second time? Budd?[edit]

If Bruce Jenner correctly redirects to Caitlyn Jenner, then shouldn't Zola Budd redirect to Zola Pieterse? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.105.46.3 (talk) 19:07, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

typo?[edit]

Last paragraph: "Mrs United Nations South Africa beauty pageant" ? Is that a typo  ? :)

Where does she live?[edit]

Where does she live--the US, S Africa, or both? (The article says in one place that she lives in one, in another that she lives in the other.) Morenoodles (talk) 09:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's her name?[edit]

Up until a recent anonymous edit we had one mention of her as "Zola Budd Pieterse" and one as "Zola Pieterse". Do we have references for either of those? DJ Clayworth (talk) 14:51, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mmm, found plenty referring to her both ways, but also a few stating that "she preferred to be called Zola Pieterse". So we'll go with that. DJ Clayworth (talk) 15:02, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zola's photo[edit]

Zola Budd is more known for competing barefoot, a photo of her running barefoot would be much more appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.42.146.76 (talk) 08:59, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Notta Bleck[edit]

No mention of British cartoonist Steve Bell's parody 'Notta Bleck' in the 80s? --Ef80 (talk) 01:27, 13 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name dispute[edit]

I see an edit war has broken out over the name. The relevant manual of style guideline is in WP:FULLNAME which says "A woman should be referred to by her most commonly used name, which will not necessarily include her husband's surname." As I clearly remember television coverage referring to her as "Zola Budd" all the time, that's what we should use. Discuss. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:19, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article is currently under the name she is best known in history by, and that is the right thing to do. Even now, many running articles on her refer to her simply as Zola Budd. She is also reported on with her last name[1], and her profile on Runners' World[2] gives mention of her married name. Before this edit war started, all was copacetic - article entitled under the name she was best known by, with a passing mention of her legal name. It is not controversial, not disputed, just one editor who thinks married names are "stupid"[3] ScrpIronIV 14:46, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see above, another user has suggested using her married name for the article. Considering her primary notoriety came around 1984 as Zola Budd, I don't think that was appropriate. But the elimination of her (formerly) married name is certainly not appropriate. She has used that name extensively since 1989. She is still listed using the Pieterse name on the Costal Carolina Cross Country coaching website. Trackinfo (talk) 18:30, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No photo of her face?[edit]

Is that really the best photo that's available for use? Might as well not bother! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.254.249.254 (talk) 16:08, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To the trained eye, her left ear is distinct enough for the purpose of identification.173.72.63.96 (talk) 00:32, 24 August 2016 (UTC)Hans Wurst[reply]

Nationality[edit]

Does she still hold British nationality, and if not when did she relinquish it?
