A minor dispute seems to have flared up in two edits by Historiographer; and perhaps this thread can help resolve any perceived differences of opinion.

A. The rationale for referencing Joseon Tongsinsa in parenthesis would appear to be questioned by the following edit:

• diff 10:29, 3 September 2009 Historiographer (6,038 bytes) (Yu was sent as mission to Japan, but not used terms of Tongsinsa.)

B. The rationale for Category:Edo period would appear to be questioned by the following edit:

• diff 10:30, 3 September 2009 Historiographer (6,013 bytes)

I would guess that both controversial edits are in part related to this sentence in the article:

"Yu jeong's diplomatic missions established a resilient foundation for a series of twelve major Joseon missions to Japan (identified collectively under the rubric of Joseon Tongsinsa, 1607-1811)."

I have restored the parenthetic note; and this is expanded for more explicit clarity . The underlined text above had been added. The additional dates are likely to remove any perceived confusion about whether or not Yu jeong is considered to have been the leader of a mission which is conventionally labeled as tongsinsa.

These additional words and dates are specifically informed by the following paragraph:

"Yujeong, who was active in the Imjin War, met with Tokugawa Ieyasu at Fushimi Castle in Kyoto .... Visiting Japan as an envoy to find out the circumstances there, Yujeong confirmed the intention of Tokugawa Ieyasu to recover diplomatic relations at this meeting, and 1,390 prisoners of war taken to Japan were returned. This became the first step in diplomacy that lasted for approximately 260 years with the Tokugawa Bakufu."<:ref name="kang274"/>Kang, Jae-eun et al. (2006). The Land of Scholars: Two Thousand Years of Korean Confucianism, p. 274.</ref>

In my view, this first mission was quite important, even though it was small. The subsequent twelve major missions to Japan were made possible by the success of this initial envoy. and for this reason I believe that Yu jeong deserves to be included with other Joseon diplomats who made significant contributions to the development of Joseon-Japanese foreign relations during the Edo period in Japan. I hope this is sufficient argument to clarify why I have restored the deleted category -- Category:Edo period.
