Wikipedia section[edit]

This is really recentism/self-absorption. The Yesha Council has done a number of notable things over the last 40 years! A third of the article shouldn't be devoted to their editing of Wikipedia.Prezbo (talk) 01:33, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, there are plenty of sources which talk about their editing of wiki. I suggest you start adding more info to make the balance of notability better. It would be wrong to remove it, because it is relative and reported heavily in reliable sources. ValenShephard (talk) 02:01, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It would really not be wrong to remove it or edit it down significantly. There are also plenty of sources that talk about the rest of their history, it's just that this is what Wikipedia editors find interesting for whatever reason. WP:WEIGHT says:

An article should not give undue weight to any aspects of the subject but should strive to treat each aspect with a weight appropriate to its significance to the subject. For example, discussion of isolated events, criticisms, or news reports about a subject may be verifiable and neutral, but still be disproportionate to their overall significance to the article topic. This is a concern especially in relation to recent events that may be in the news.

The current version of the article is in violation of that guideline and cutting down this section is a necessary part of fixing that.Prezbo (talk) 02:09, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That is true, but those things are not in the article. Of course, in a small article which is lacking detail it might seem to have undue weight. But what I am saying is that it will be better to expand the other sections than just cutting this one down, it will kill two birds with one stone: you improve the article and balance the weight. ValenShephard (talk) 02:10, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an expert on this topic and I'm not planning on expanding this article. It would have to be quite long for this section to be appropriate. Unless/until it reaches that length the section should be cut down.Prezbo (talk) 02:12, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wont support a deletion or cutting down then. Until articles expand some issues will always have more weight that others, based on how famous and common they are in common culture, and this has happened here. ValenShephard (talk) 02:14, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There's no reason to argue that undue weight should only be fixed through the most labor-intensive method possible. Undue weight is a real problem; the article would be improved by deleting some of this content.Prezbo (talk) 02:18, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is no need to argue for the general improvement of the article? Oh dear.. ValenShephard (talk) 02:19, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What you are actually arguing is that I should devote a big chunk of time to improving this article as soon as possible, or else learn to live with its undue weight problem.Prezbo (talk) 02:23, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not right now, and not even you specificially. I was talking generally that that would be the better choice. And until then, I wont support a cut or deletion. ValenShephard (talk) 02:28, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • I came to check the proper name to link the Yesha Council to their response to the August 2010 West Bank shooting which, unlike the huge section on editing Wikipedia, is notable. Also has it occurred to User:ValenShephard that if a tidal wave of Yesha editors had actually materialized, they would at least have cleaned up the woefully inadequate article on their own organization? This whole should be reduced as a scare that never materialized; a sentence with footnotes would suffice.AMuseo (talk) 14:15, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did afterall only say that I will not support his deletion or cuts. I won't get in the way if consenus decides to cut that section down. ValenShephard (talk) 18:01, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Let it stay at the top. --213.33.31.120 (talk) 09:41, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Makes no sense layout wise. It is completely chronological while also smacking of WP:RECENTISM and WP:POINT.Cptnono (talk) 09:43, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is what they are most notable for with average user of wiki, so it should have a prominent place. Maybe not right at the top. ValenShephard (talk) 09:44, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe? No, it belongs in any other section that recent news would go in. Of course it needs to not be at the top. And Fox News? What was that edit about? Cptnono (talk) 09:46, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Relax, I was just trying to be general. ValenShephard (talk) 09:48, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I assume average wikipedia user is less interested in edit warring history and sock puppetry background. This information is too WP-centric. May be a clear case of the systemic bias? --ElComandanteChe (talk) 11:10, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, obviously it is. I think this is agreed by all, the question about is whether to resolve it by adding more content, or by removing content. Personally I am indifferent to the above two options. But keeping the article in it's current form is of course against Wikipedia policies. And please ignore comments by the IP editor, which appears to be blocked for vandalism. removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 12:21, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I wish to update that in the years 2013-2017 the chair of this council was Avi Ro'e (he:אבי רואה), who was also head of Mateh Binyamin Regional Council up until 2018. In 2017 he was replaced as head of Yesha council by Hanan'el Dorani (he:חננאל דורני), who is also head of Kedumim municipality[1] Bellezzasolo. Dani Dayan became Consul General of Israel in New York in 2016. Mateo (talk) 13:14, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't Hebrew-Wiki qualifies? I mean it's these are just basic simple facts... Mateo (talk)
@Mateo: As user-generated content, we can't cite Hebrew Wikipedia - CIRCULAR. That section of the Hebrew article is unreferenced. However, I found a citation for Hanan'el. It also includes a mention of the outgoing chairman, so you probably can use it for what you want.[2] Bellezzasolo Discuss 13:55, 23 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. DBigXray 06:46, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
DBig, this article is outdated for years now. Its current state is completely irreverent and misleading. I have made it as clear as day that I wish to UPDATE it according to the only reliable sources there is, not change anything from X to Y. The fact this simple thing has not been done reflects that Wikipedia has a poor system we can call Wikipedia Bureaucracy. Mateo (talk) 12:48, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for removing the Extended-confirmed-protected[edit]

Due to a long time protect, which left this article out of date and irrelevant - I suggest opening this article for editing 2001:4DF4:174:F000:A82E:E8FF:A491:7EF (talk) 13:32, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Even if the protection was removed, non-extended-confirmed editors would not permitted to edit it. That's due to an Arbitration Committee ruling, see WP:Arbitration/Index/Palestine-Israel articles. Zerotalk 13:43, 14 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
