Non-Encylopedic to the Extreme[edit]

Am I mistaken? Or is there a personal remembrance in this article's Legacy section that reads "I lived in the house prior to that, 1974-1976, when it was owned by St. John's college, where I was a student." Clearly this is a little visited page or that would have been deleted years ago. Who is "I"? And who cares? Actually I would, as a scholar of Daoism interested in Bynner's version of the Tao te ching, so message me, but I'm striking it from this article. Msalt (talk) 08:30, 12 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge with Robert Hunt (died 1964)[edit]

Article notability hinges mostly on relationship to other more famous people, but notability is WP:NOTINHERITED. Witter Bynner seems like the best merge target. GretLomborg (talk) 22:31, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reason to contest deletion: Robert Hunt is a different person than Witter Bynner and his notability is not inherited only from Bynner:

he is the author of 18 poems "The Early World and other poems"

he is the editor of Bynner's "Selected Poems"

he was the son of Rose Bowl architect Myron Hunt, worked with him and is responsible for three restoration of historical building still existing: A Santa Fe Adobe Home, now a bed and breakfast called the Inn of the Turquoise Bear, an Historical Chapala's home by Mexican architect Luis Barragán and Peter Hurd's ranch in San Patricio, New Mexico.

This wasn't a proposal for a deletion, only a merge. Notability can't be inherited, even from multiple relationships, and the correct thing to do in those cases is to merge content into the articles of the notable people (see WP:INVALIDBIO). Not every published author or editor is notable, only ones that satisfy WP:CREATIVE. It's the same for the architectural "restoration work," he would have had to create something like a "significant monument," not just a few historical buildings (which are common). The Santa Fe house was Bynner's and can be thought of as another component of that relationship. Also, sexuality alone does not confer notability, especially not in this case, since that status was not unique at the time. - GretLomborg (talk) 19:52, 24 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
