William Morton's significance: Three phases of his 70 year theatrical career are notable: His discovery and 16 year management of Maskelyne and Cooke, his 16 years developing the Greenwich Theatre and allied businesses; his 40 year development of seven theatres and cinemas in Hull (4 of which he built), for many years dubbed Hull's 'Grand Old Man'.
Also significant is the 100 year context of his life and career, and his personal commentary on it.
Also significant is the history of prejudice against journalism and stage by the Church and 'respectable classes'. The latter probably deserves a page in its own right, but not centred on Morton. Petrosbizar (talk) 08:20, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
'Prejudice against stage' is to be found at "Antitheatricality" and some material has now been migrated there.Petrosbizar (talk) 23:37, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
