Whitburn Mill[edit]

I doubt very much that "South Tyneside Council took possession of Whitburn Mill in 1960". The council wasn't formed until 1974! Presumably it was Boldon Urban District Council that took over in 1960 (or possibly Durham County Council). Skinsmoke (talk) 01:53, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Whitburn, South TynesideWhitburn, Tyne and Wear – Per WP:UKPLACE use the county unless there are multiple in a county. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:05, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 16:28, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Crouch, Swale and Ahecht:
  • @Crouch, Swale: WP:UKPLACE also says that if "the place is in the same local government district as a larger settlement and it is unambiguously within that larger settlement itself, placename, town/city should be used", so the current disambiguation is appropriate. --Ahecht (TALK

  • @Ahecht: 1) South Tyneside isn't a settlement and 2) Whitburn clearly isn't unquestionably part of a larger settlement, its in between Sunderland and South Shields. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:30, 18 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Nom's interpretation of the guideline seems correct. PC78 (talk) 16:37, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
