Untitled[edit]

I have not seen any information pertaining to the fact that West Covina was a part of Covina. I know Montebello was once part of Monterey Park, but I've never read anything in print or online to state the former. If I recall, the city was named because of its proximity to Covina. -- Punani 06:07, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Punani, sorry for really delayed reply. West Covina incorporated in 1923 because Covina was making some unpopular changes to the city. 99% of this article reads like it was written by someone in the chamber of commerce or at least someone with a huge interest in promoting business and/or shopping in the city. Nicknames[edit]

The term "Wes Cochina" was removed from the article's list of West Covina nicknames. "Cochina" means pig in Spanish and is a derogatory term in that language, and the nickname is offensive to potentially half the city's residents, as the article states approximately 45% of city residents identified themselves as Hispanic or partially Hispanic. Even if this term is used colloquially to describe West Covina, its inclusion on Wikipedia is no more than vandalism and is inappropriate for this article.

For the record, I am a Hispanic resident of West Covina, and occasionally search this article on the town I'm proud to call home.

Of the other nicknames in the article, I like "Dub C" the best; there some businesses in the West Covina area that use Dub C in their names.

Rich, I agree with you. Some people have used the term West Cochina. West Covina is not a bad town, it is a lot better than some of the SGV towns, gateway cities communities, and Southeastern LA communities such as Huntington Park and South Gate. At the time of writing we know have a Sprout's Farmers Market and a lot of big box retailers. The town is very much a typical suburb of Los Angeles.

And a little more vandalism[edit]

Somebody had added this sentence: "West Covina has very well-kept-up neighborhoods that attract nazis and many racist families."

I took it out -- it's dumb, it's juvenile, and if it ever did contain a grain of truth, that was a long time ago. Very few (if any) of the communities in the San Gabriel and Pomona valleys attract racists any more -- as far as I can see, the hardcore racist/nazi types have been moving out to various desert communities for some time now. To merge[edit]

After an AfD discussion, it was decided to merge the following article with this one - obviously, not the whole thing; use whatever you like out of it.

Edgewood Middle School is a middle school in West Covina, CA, belonging to the West Covina Unified School District. As much as 2,445 stundents attend according to the 2006-2007 school count. There are 36 teachers and staff at Edgewood Middle School. The current Mascot is the Wild Cats and the school colors are green and white.

History[edit]

Edgewood began as High school in 1958, with orginal buildings of the original school are still in use today. In 1988, Edgewood High school merged with West Covina High School.

In 1988, Edgewood later became a middle school with more buildings added to accomdate the students and teachers.

The current Principal is Jim Mandala.

If I remember right, when Edgewood HS merged with West Covina HS, the campus was torn down soon after and replaced with a townhouse complex...true?...Michaela92399 01:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Statistics[edit]

Latinos make about 55%,Asian make about 4.%,Filipino makes 10%,Blacks make 6%,whites makes 1% ,and other makes 6%.

About 619 students qualify for the free lunch program.

Supension has decreased from 475 to 255. At risk students has also decreased from 192 to 60 students. The average class is about 32 Students and 60 students in Physical Education classes.

There are about 32 Teachers and staff. One Principal and two assistant principals. There are also 4 school counselors aranged in alphabetical order.

Mascot and school colors[edit]

Edgewood has had two Mascots over it history, the Trojans and the recent Wild Cats. The colors have remained green and white through its history.

I concur and I have removed it. The trivia section seems to be (or already has) descending into a random vanity collection. (e.g. Who is Ed Diaz (urologist) and why is he pertinent or deserving of recognition?) If someone feels that it should belong, they're welcome to restore it to the page, but could you at least clean it up or break it up into sections?
