WP: shortcuts[edit]

Perhaps the best known (imho) WP on Wikipedia is as Wikipedia: namespace shortcuts. Perhaps add that to the top line disambiguating Wikipedia terms? I'm not fond of breaking the wall between the encyclopedia and the project, but perhaps in this case it's useful? 207.145.133.34 19:03, 8 October 2006 (UTC) Is this referring to the fact that you can use "wp" + your search term (e.g., "wp Wikipedia") in Firefox as a shortcut to that term's Wikipedia page?24.57.249.250 (talk) 00:44, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

the ICAO airport code for East Timor[edit]

I don't believe that this entry:

belongs on the WP disambiguation page.

  1. "WP" is not mentioned on the East Timor article at all, so the entry should not link to that article. (WP:DABACRONYM)
  2. The term "WP" does not refer to ICAO airport codes in general (even if it is a subset of those codes), so it makes no sense for the entry to link to that article. (That's not what DAB pages are for.)

It seems to me that an entry should only refer to East Timor if that article mentioned the ICAO code in it somewhere. I would have simply added it myself, but {{Infobox country}} does not appear to have an icao parameter.

Does anyone care to add a brief mention of the airport to the East Timor article, with the code?

Does anyone have any other justification including the entry on this page? Mitch Ames (talk) 13:29, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If I may take these several objections separately:
1. East Timor article is not linked, so not relevant
2. entry is mentioned in linked article ICAO airport code (does not have to be for the whole article) per WP:DABMENTION, style of mention is according to that too.
I do take the point that the ICAO airport code prefixes are arguably more obscure than the ICAO airport codes, but this is analogous to ITU country code (see +1), and are used in at least two articles.
While I'm here, WP:DABACRONYM does say to consider adding them to the articles when missing. Widefox; talk 21:36, 25 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I mentioned linking to East Timor, because
  • That's what "WP" is actually referring to in this context, so it's a reasonable possible target
  • This entry has been added and removed several times, including one version that did link to East Timor.
Perhaps a better entry would be:
This gives our reader a direct link to the list of all East Timor airports - which presumably is what they're interested in. Mitch Ames (talk) 13:20, 26 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

White power[edit]

This entry has been removed several times, before adding an entry for White power, please check the article mentions the term per WP:DABMENTION. Widefox; talk 16:58, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"please check the article mentions the term" and (per WP:DABACRONYM), that the acronym is used elsewhere in reliable sources. "Do not invent abbreviations or acronyms". Mitch Ames (talk) 12:55, 30 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, per DABACRONYM. Thanks for correcting. Widefox; talk 22:21, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
