Claim to be oldest[edit]
Compare with Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University. This arboretum (a type of botanical garden) has had the Arnold Arboretum name since the same year that the Beal garden was started, but appears to be older due to the inclusion of the Bussey Institution that had previously been part of Harvard.
