Talk:Vivian Charles

It may be a mistake to say that Vivian Charles is Jewish. The episode "Pie-lette" mentions that Vivian's niece, Charlotte Charles, was Jewish. But Semitic ancestry is passed along a matriarchal line, i.e., a person is considered to be ethnically Jewish only if their mother is Jewish. So far in the series, nothing has been said about Chuck's mother. Presumably, all we know about her is that she is/was Jewish, and therefore her daughter is. But that doesn't necessarily mean Chuck's father or her patriarchal aunts are Jewish.

There is also the possibility that Chuck is not ethnically Jewish, and converted to Judaism.
