Merge?[edit]

Would anyone oppose a merge with Viking metal? I'm not formally proposing one yet because I'm not sure whether or not there is a distinction. Heather 00:40, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would. They don't see to be the same even if they share some common themes. Vikingarock is basicly a sub-genre to white power music while viking metal seems more unpolitical. // Liftarn
Okay, thanks! I saw Ultima Thule listed over at Viking metal and just assumed they were the same. Heather 11:31, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, they shouldn't be listed there so I remove them. // Liftarn

Viking rock is NOT the same as white power/RAC music, it is ignorant to lump them together —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.44.155.11 (talk) 07:39, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

But according to some sources it is a subset. // Liftarn (talk) 13:59, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is this for real?[edit]

Sounds to me like one of those neologism coined to describe the style of just one band with fans lumping in several other groups just because they want to spread the idea around. Of the nine bands listed here, only two have articles on wikipedia. The first is Glittertind who is otherwise known as a viking metal act since they are a metal band that has incorporated punk rock into their style. The other is Ultima Thule who is probably the band that coined this neologism as indicated on their article page. I'll nominate this article for deletion myself if nobody can provide any references that this is a legitimate subgenre of music. --Bardin (talk) 11:43, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Bardin; sounds like a neologism, and the unsourced section on the connection to white supremacy is particularly controversial. The list of bands should also be pruned in line with other music genre pages... if the band doesn't have an article, notability hasn't been established, so they shouldn't be in an encyclopedia. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 19:46, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Glittertind started off as a pure vikingrock band, even Evige Asatro has barely any metal on it, and the guy recorded 2 albums for vikingarock labels before that. The genre does exist and is definitely separate from viking metal, it's just that it's almost entirely a Swedish phenomenon and not very well known elsewhere (although Glittertind is Norwegian, but they are an exception). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.157.155.247 (talk) 23:34, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I added some sources so it should take care of some issues. // Liftarn (talk)

Alleging to White Supremacy is Slander at Worse, Dishonest at Best[edit]

No actual concrete evidence exists supporting the claim of racism/supremacy. Not everything relating to the Nords is inherently racist. Saying "Vikingarock is basicly a sub-genre to white power music" lacks any credible proof. Wikipedia needs less biased contributors (reverse racists much?). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.198.104.107 (talk) 22:55, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are entitled to your opinion, but that's what the sources say. // Liftarn (talk)
Many vikingarock bands had ties to organizations that would be questionable in many people's opinion, but on the other hand I haven't actually heard any songs that have actual outright nazi/racist lyrics. So it kind of depends. It is ridiculous to claim that someone is automatically a racist if they play or listen to this, though, which is the opinion in some circles.85.157.155.247 (talk) 23:43, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Reliable sources beat your opinions. // Liftarn (talk) 14:11, 17 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes because every other group is lionized for celebrating their hertiage, except whites. Hmmm, nothing strange about that. 71.15.164.197 (talk) 16:18, 26 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
