POV

Yes, the article is about a flamebouyant,lavish lifestyle personality. So even the fact of matter kind of writing would appear a bit one sided. (or is it that his 'other side' of the personality too be listed!!!, i'm not sure of any thing worth mention except the political ambitions mentioned already). Can someone quote a few exampels of the one sided statements from the articles, so that a suitable re phrasing and the eventual removal of the NPOV tag can me done Pratheepps 09:38, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps I should be rapped on the knuckles for not checking the talk page first, but I added some new text to the intro that appears to head back into this "lavish lifestyle" territory. I don't think I added any information that is too controversial, and I think that giving some kind of impression of Mr Mallya's larger-than-life public persona is essential for this article. Apart from the bit on his 'conspicuous consumption' (and honestly, with a 95m luxury yacht, it's pretty difficult to contest that assertion), I don't think that the info does a disservice to the man and instead gives readers a better understanding of who he is and how he is perceived or portrayed by the 'swish set', page 3 and the Indian public generally. I wanted to add this following section but it could be one sided.

Vijay Mallya is the Chairman of public companies both in India as well as in the USA. He has been the Chairman of Aventis Pharma India (previously Hoechst) as well as the Chairman of Bayer CropScience in India (previously Agrevo) for over 20 years, in addition to his Chairmanship of several other corporations.

Vijay Mallya has received several professional awards both in India and overseas. He was also conferred a Doctorate of Philosophy in Business Administration, by the Southern California University, Irvine. He has also been nominated as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum.

He is a keen sportsman and is an ardent aviator and yachtsman of distinction. He not only participates in various sporting events but also supports various sporting activities worldwide, particularly for the under privileged.

Upon assuming the position of Chairman in October 1983, Vijay Mallya initiated the process of defining a corporate structure with performance accountability, inducting professional management and consolidating the unwieldy empire into individual operating divisions.

In 1988, Vijay Mallya became a non-resident Indian to pursue global opportunities and to transform the UB Group into India’s first multinational. While, in the initial stages, overseas representative offices had been commissioned, the real break was in 1988 when Vijay Mallya, in a leveraged buyout acquired the global Berger Paints Group with operating companies across four continents. The exit strategy for this investment was profitably executed when Vijay Mallya successfully directed five Initial Public Offerings on the London, Singapore (Main Boards), Nairobi, Jamaica and Abidjan Stock Exchanges. The paints business was divested for significant value in 1996.

Vijay Mallya also founded a software company in the USA in 1993 which was subsequently listed on the NASDAQ in 1996 and which provides a considerable window of opportunity to the vast US market. He also initiated several ventures for the promotion and globalization of UB brands and, in particular, Kingfisher and McDowell.


In 1990, following the Government of India’s liberalised economic policies, Vijay Mallya decided that the UB Group would only retain interests in businesses that were globally competitive and which did not depend upon fiscal tariff protection. He also decided to focus on areas of core competence and transformed the vastly diversified UB conglomerate into a handful of key operating businesses.

United Breweries made its initial impact by manufacturing bulk beer for the British troops, which was transported in huge barrels or "Hogsheads". Kingfisher, the Group's most visible and profitable brand, made a modest entry in the sixties.During the 1950's and 60's, the company expanded greatly by acquiring other breweries. First was the addition of McDowell as one of the Group subsidiaries, a move which helped United Breweries to extend its portfolio to wines and spirits business. Strategically, the Group moved into agro-based industries and medicines when Mallya acquired Kissan Products and formed a long-term relationship with Hoechst AG of Germany to create the pharmaceutical company now known as Aventis Pharma.

Following his father's untimely death, Vittal Mallya's son Mr. Vijay Mallya assumed the Group's mantle, also at an early age of 28, in 1983. He shaped the Group as a true global conglomerate, with the aid of diverse businesses.

The ubiquitous flying winged horse, which is the symbol of the United Breweries, FIRST found its exalted place as the Group logo nearly six decades ago. Then, the Helladic horse – associated with beer and nectar in Greek mythology - carried a beer cask between the wings, ostensibly because beer formed the core operations of the Group. Later, the beer cask was removed to represent the Group’s multifaceted operations that stretch far beyond beer. Now, it was just the Pegasus, flying high.

Now a brand new avatar of the Pegasus is ready to take centre stage. The new UB Group identity has been redesigned to reflect the spirit of an organization which has reinvented itself, grown many times over, consolidated leadership, has a global outlook and is soaring to its destiny.

You have got to be kidding me ! What are you- the President of the Mallya fan club ? It's better to read newspapers for information than Mallya's own website telling us what a great man he is ! That honorary doctorate has been found to be bogus- The journalist couldn't find a university called Southern California Uni and when they contacted another one called South California University of santa Ana, they couldn't find Mallya's name. So who exactly gave him the doctorates ?

They even found his 'lavish lifestyle' as you say, kind of unethical. His yachts, villas and cars are all charged to his company which essentially m,eans that the stockholders have paid for them and whatever maintenance charges are incurred, including fuel for the yacht are declared as company expenses.

Lavish lifestyle.? It's more than unethical. Authentic sources say there are (or were) seven or eight girls from Nagaland for Vijay mallya's enjoyment at kingfisher Villa in Candolim, Goa. This man indulges in too much. He also has got totally drunk all night and slapped and abused his attendants at KF villa. Formula 1 Open Class?

Time Man of the Year 2006

"Dr. Mallya also had the honor of being awarded Time Man of the Year in 2006."

Vijay winning Grand Prix

Quote from the article at this time from the Sports section: "Winner of the Sholavaram Grand Prix 1980/81 and Calcutta Grand Prix in 1979". This is misleading, as Wikipedia and people in general associate a GP with F1, drifting and motorcycles motoring sports, as seen here: Grand Prix. Any sport event is entitled, in my opinion, to be called whatever they want to be named, but I think some clarification is needed in this section to state that these GP are not F1 related. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gaboalonso (talk • contribs) 08:28, 26 July 2014 (UTC)

Personally I don't think many people will be confused - I think the fact that the text doesn't explicitly identify those races as F1 races is a strong indication to the reader that they're not (i.e. if they were F1 races, I think the article would say so).
