Being that Vasil Chekalarov is an ancestor I would like to set the record straight on his ethnicity at being "Bulgarian", it is not how he identified, he referred to himself as Macedonian as does his family that still exists today

As many other Bulgarian revolutionaries from Macedonia, Chekalarov was Macedonian and Bulgarian simultaneously. Macedonian as regional belonging and Bulgarian - as ethnic. Some of the sources in the article endorse this.--JSimin (talk) 10:14, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

Please, don't change the article only per WP:DONTLIKE. Check the personal self-identification of Chekalarov cited in his Memoires Чекаларов, Васил. Дневник 1901-1903, written in Bulgarian. It is supported also by a secondary source - Vacalopoulos, Apostolos. Modern history of Macedonia and a primary source - Brailsford, H. N. Macedonia: Its Races and Their Future, . Thanks. H.N Brailsford didn't say chakalarov said "Cruel but competent general" of the Bulgarian insurgents

he said this instead:Tchakalároff, the cruel but competent general of the Southern insurgents this is even in the source that is quoted Macedonier23 (talk) 18:21, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

i don't see where he mentions macedonists in the source

it talks about a "grecoman pope" but not about Macedonists if anyone is against this you can revert it Macedonier23 (talk) 17:39, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

On p. 188: Макар и да бяхме казали да бъдем тайничко, но всички ни узнаха даже и гъркоманския поп Герман, поиска да доди при нас. Позволихме му и доде. Тоя брат до там се е погърчил, щото почна да ни говори една българска две гърцки. Подигнахме въпроса за народността му, той се помъчи всячески да ни докаже, че ние сме гърци! Като не можа да изложи факти, които му поискахме, почна да развива историята за великия Александър Македонски, че не сме нито гърци, нито българи, а сме македонци, без да помисли, че во Македония има и турци и евреи и от много други нации. Човек, който не разбира от история и да почни да ти проповедва со нея, това е много смешно! Ние не искахме да влизаме в повече разпри с него и затова го зарезахме. i didn't say anything about the macedonian version of his diary i read the source you have linked and the page is 188 so put it there cause when you click on the source it redirects you to page 195,etc so fix that Macedonier23 (talk) 12:35, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

although i don't know how much we can trust this as Tsono bilyarski the editor of the diary was a part of the comittee for state security which was closely allied to the ussr's kgb but i don't wanna start an argument on an encyclopedia Macedonier23 (talk) 12:46, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Hm, as far as I can see, the author of the foreword of the Macedonian edition of the Diary is Paskal Gilevski, who is a former agent of the State Security Administration (Yugoslavia). Jingiby (talk) 13:23, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Is there any secondary source about it? If there is only a primary source about it, perhaps we shouldn't be reaching conclusions ourselves. If it's a notable part of his biography, secondary sources would mention it. StephenMacky1 (talk) 13:31, 24 September 2023 (UTC)
