Re-assesed 9/3/16[edit]

I've reassessed this article as a start class after an extensive rewrite. A history section is required for a start rating, so I took the NOTMEMORIAL violating Namesake section and merged it with some history info from the lede to create it. The referencing in that section needs improvement, preferably with citations to independent sources like newspapers. I cleaned up much of the repeated use of the school's name (what other school would we be writing about here?) and rewrote the "chattiness" out. Encyclopedia articles are not written like essays or journalistic works. Other than completely mundane stuff, everything needs sourcing independent of the school.

A section for the school's academic arts programs (band, chorus, theater, visual arts) should be added containing a simple description of what is offered and the band's state championship should be added there. Another section for athletics should be added, with a listing of sports offered (limited to varsity sports and indicating which are boys, girls, separate teams for boys and girls or coed). Ideally this would have an independent source and I believe you can find one on the UIL's website. The state championship achievements should be added there and the Accomplishments section should be eliminated. If the school has interscholastic academic teams (e.g. Science Olympiad, speech and debate, robotics) those can be discussed briefly under the Academics section with appropriate references (existence can be sourced to the school; any accomplishments must have independent sources).

My compliments to the contributors to this article. This article has some of the best references, both in formatting and in quality, I've seen on short school articles. Start class is probably as good as this can get for quite a few years. Better rated articles are almost all much older schools with extensive histories and the sources covering it. Only time will change that. Thanks for the good work. John from Idegon (talk) 03:34, 4 September 2016 (UTC), co-coordinator, Wikiproject Schools[reply]

Venom[edit]

Currently, Venom no longer exists at Vandegrift. In its place is “Select Women”, a normal women’s choir, which was originally the name of Venom before it became a show choir. Additionally, it is not a class period, and instead its members attend weekly rehearsals. Any treble choir student, save for those already in chamber choir, had the opportunity to audition for the choir at the beginning of the year. 2600:387:A:15:0:0:0:38 (talk) 16:32, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Venom[edit]

The Viper Venom choir was not named after the film—the school’s mascot is a Viper, and so the name is meant to be indicative of the mascot. It looks like there may be a troll going in repeatedly to add this when it gets corrected.

Also, as of last year, there was no longer a show choir. Due to COVID and I think a lack of success or popularity (show choir is far from the directors’ specialties), it reverted into a special non varsity Women’s choir called “Select Women”, which would attend certain competitions regular choirs didn’t, like the fall competition at the Kemah board walk. 66.219.195.154 (talk) 23:03, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
