So what is upstream? Article seems to state 2 different definitions[edit]

The article says that upstream refers to the direction of traffic flow from client to server. Then later it says upstream refers to traffic sent rather than traffic recieved. Which is it? My understanding was that the latter definition was the correct one, at least that's how I've heard people using it. Perhaps the first definition (the direction of traffic flowing from client to server) was intended as a common example for consumers, who generally don't have servers, to understand, but was in fact using the latter definition correctly and just didn't include an explanation that information transferred from client to server is only upstream from the client's perspective and that this directionality is purely relative, depending upon the machine examined, rather than constituting an independent quality of traffic. Can anyone clarify the definition that is correct and comment on the article w/ regard to this point? Thanks--Δζ (talk) 00:41, 30 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
