Content removed, expansion and sources needed[edit]

I have removed two lines that were copyright violations, as they were taken directly from the U of W website ([1]). I also rewrote the opening line to describe, in brief, what the U of W is (i.e. a public university in Winnipeg that focuses on undergraduate education). However, this article is still in major need of a cleanup, expansion, and the addition of sources. I have started working on this (albeit slowly), but if anyone else wants to work on it as well that would be all the better :) . Danelo 18:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I removed Bif Naked from the List as she did not graduate from either UWinnipeg or The Collegiate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.132.124.65 (talk) 18:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Louis Riel Statue[edit]

Any particular reason for the image of the Louis Riel statue? It sits on the grounds of the College Universitaire Saint-Boniface, which is itself affiliated with the University of Manitoba and not the University of Winnipeg. --74.216.16.13 (talk) 00:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tom Axworthy[edit]

Not that noteworthy. The University graduates several people who go on to be senior civil servants. I'm going to edit him out unless there is a good objection. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmaclean (talkcontribs) 02:34, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Proposal - United College, Winnipeg into University of Winnipeg[edit]

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section.

I propose that United College, Winnipeg be merged into University of Winnipeg. I think that the content in the United College, Winnipeg article can easily be explained in the context of University of Winnipeg and would enhance the history section of this page. The University of Winnipeg article is of a reasonable size that the merging of United College, Winnipeg will not cause any problems as far as article size or undue weight is concerned.I propose that United College, Winnipeg be merged into University of Winnipeg. Great Rock Climb[edit]

Let's avoid writing ESPN style coverage of the great rock climb. I don't see "The Caravaners" requiring more text than all other athletes from UoW. It's ridiculous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.161.206.163 (talk) 21:54, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Address inclusion[edit]

I would like to know why there is such resistance to including the street address of the university in the infobox. This seems to a minor detail and quite reasonable to me. I can see no good reason to exclude it, unless it's meant to be a secret. See Incidents§Vancouver, Canada IP editor or editors and misuse of infoboxes for previous relevant discussions.--Auric talk 18:51, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First and foremost because this is an encyclopedia, not a directory. Second, it's extraordinarily unlikely that any one street address will be adequate for a modern college or university that occupies many buildings likely in many different locations. There is no reason for us to include the street address of the institution's admissions office, central receiving, or administration building in this infobox. +1. Anyone needing to get in touch with them can find their street address, tph # etc etc on their official website, which is already linked to in the infobox. - Tom | Thomas.W talk 20:13, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I started that discussion because the IP editor was using HTML formatting to make the address appear in the infobox. This is not how the parameters of the infobox are meant to be used and will lead to problems in future if this data is imported to Wikidata or elsewhere. I have no objection to the address being added to this article if done correctly (as you did) and if it makes sense. At Template:Infobox university, it advises "consider a discussion on the talk page before using this field. In many instances, public institutions have more than one campus, and an address field is not representative". World's Lamest Critic (talk) 21:09, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
