List of interpreters[edit]

Why are there lists of individual interpreters? I don't think these are sufficiently well known to be listed (some of them are for other reasons, but none are notable because they are interpreters). Without a good counterargument, I'll remove them in a few days time. Fram 12:15, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Strong and Heavy Keep - Reply from article originator: List of interpreters is a compilation of entries that have never ever been compiled anywhere else (especially on one page). It is a vital part of this article. It had also been featured (while in its "infancy" on DYK column of the main page. So consider that I am still continuously building the pages for individual interpreters. But since there is a great number of them, this task really takes time. (I am also interested in creating/expanding and improving other articles; not just this one). So please do not delete without consulting me. I might already have prepared a biographical data of the interpreter/s you might want to delete from the list but just not have found time to upload them yet. Thank you. If you or anyone else could assist me in this task, I would really appreciate it. Inclusion of the list within the article is important for maintaining the quality of this article. And these people are UN interpreters - their on "top" of their profession, as they themselves say. They represent the UN and the world. They are "diplomatic bridges" (voices of diplomacy too), representatives of international diplomacy, although they are performing from the backstage of conferences. Well, if no one ever compiled a list of these interpreters, then one can wonder if it is a good subject for here. We are a tertioary source, we report and condense what secondary sources have written. Compiling a list for which no secondary source exists is not the purpose of Wikipedia. And Wikipedia doesn't report because someone does his job well or badly, we report if people are notable (else we could delete our Paris Hilton article :-) ). Fram 14:14, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Stronger and Heavier Keep - Their names are compiled in what we call the AIIC book (www.aiic.net), in TAALS, in a United Nations directory of names. These are professional compilations (secondary sources). Wikipedia is an informational source (and an informational source as well). I am gradually footnoting these sources. I hope you and my fellow wikipedians have the patience to give me time to do that. I welcome constructive criticisms and feedback from fellow editors. I won't be posting these names if I don't have sources. These people are not really nameless (in a sense). Dragonbite 15:04, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I delinked the links to lists, however now that I come here I see that the lists should not have been removed, in all likelihood. You asked for comments, comments against your decision were the only ones posted, and you went ahead, and either Fram or Rodsan18/Dragonbite have every reason to restore it. I see Wikipedia:BOLD, but am having trouble getting Wikipedia:ASSHOLE to load, so either I'm having technical issues, or you need to stop stepping on the toes of people who are adding content, rather that removing it on your own volition.200.42.217.61 (talk) 20:14, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
