@Aomine9:

Regarding your recent edits:

  • [1] "King "King of Melody", "Prince of Playback Singing" etc. are not "other names" of Udit Narayan. Other_names parameter is supposed to be used for actual names used by the person.
  • [2] The refs do not mention any "home town" of Udit Narayan, and random websites like celebrityborn.com etc. are not reliable sources anyway.
  • [3] Wikipedia is not a collection of quotes.

@Aomine9: This has been already discussed in the #Birthplace section above - the Nepalese newspapers claim that he was born in Bhardah, but Udit Narayan himself has denied this, and clarified that it was his father who was born there. He (as well as several other sources) have repeatedly stated that he was born in Baisi. If you want to discuss it all over again, please start a request for comment. utcursch | talk 15:30, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Utcursch: He was born in India according to him but he is a Nepalese playback singer ... he joined Bollywood much later so don’t edit it — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aomine9 (talkcontribs)

Singing for Radio Nepal doesn't make him a "Nepalese singer" if he is an Indian citizen (as he has himself stated). The article already states that he has partial Nepalese ancestry.
And you haven't still explained how is "King of Melody" an other name, or what is the source for Bhardah being his "home town" (none of the sources added by you support that assertion) etc.
Please gain consensus on the talk page before reinstating your edits. utcursch | talk 22:58, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Udit Narayan himself disagrees, as do several other sources. Copying from the previous discussion:
  • Bangalore Mirror (13 Jan 2009): A front page report in one of Bihar’s newspaper has Udit seething in protest. "Some people are out to malign my name and cheat me of the recognition that the government thinks I deserve. Claims are that I was born in Nepal. But let me tell you, I was born in the Baisi village of the Supaul district in Bihar in 1955, at my maternal grandparent’s home."
  • IANS (15 January 2009, published in Mid-Day, Zee News, Hindustan Times etc.): But the singer - who according to some reports was born in Raj Biraj town of Saptari district in southern Nepal - says that he was born in Bihar. "They are out to malign me and stop me from being given the recognition that the government thinks I deserve by saying I am not an Indian. They say I was born in Nepal, but that's completely false. I was born in a village called Baisi on the Supaul district of Bihar in 1955 at my maternal grandparents' home," Udit said.
  • Outlook (8 May 2017): "I began performing quite early, singing Maithili folk songs when I was barely four or five, at village fairs and such places, in and around Baisi in Supaul district—my mother Bhuvaneshwari Jha’s native place in Bihar where I was born and brought up. She is 98 now. My father, who hailed from Bhadra, a village across the border in the Saptari district of Nepal, was a poor man."
  • The Times of India (22 Mar 2012): "I am a son of Bihar; it is my birthplace and I have very close ties with it as most of my youth has been spent here. I feel proud being a Bihari and also feel lucky for being able to witness the centenary year celebration of the state," Udit Narayan, noted Bollywood singer told TOI on Thursday. [...] Talking about his struggle and journey from Baisi village in Supaul district to Bollywood, Udit said, "I belong to a farmer family and was born in a small village. Earlier, I used to sing at small fairs organized near my village. From there, I reached Kathmandu radio station and worked for Rs 100 only. But my hard work brought me to my present position."

@Utcursch: Confirmed Nepalese citizenship. Edit English wikipedia data asap ˜Quayamat Se Quayamat Tak’ was a mega hit all over and that made Udit a star overnight. And with fame and stardom, follow controversies. Udit was alleged with leaving Nepali citizenship, so much so that doubts were raised about Udit’s nationality and more. “Udit is a cool guy by nature and he tried to calm me down saying these all are part and parcel of our life. But I was really hurt. Instead of being proud that a Nepali boy and girl leaving their homeland, after spending hard times and incessant struggle have achieved something, we were getting negative feedback. Udit still carries a Nepali passport. He boasts of being a Nepali and we are proud of being Nepalis.”

On Udit Narayan[edit]

@Utcursch:Seen discussions on Udit Narayan being an Indian, he has never said he is a Indian anywhere. See this interview of Udit Narayan in 2017:link provided as he has clearly said he is from Nepal and his hometown is Bhardaha, Saptari, Nepal so please edit Indian playback singer from the article that’s false info. He is a Nepalese but has taken Indian citizenship later when he got established in Bollywood though. Citizenship issue of Udit narayan[edit]

False info . Nepalese citizen confirmed [1]. Change the wikipedia data asap. Elis59 (talk) 17:16, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Not confirmed, personal view far from facts, one newpaper article does not count anything, such a controversial topic needs ample evidence and more than that no such confirmation from his side. The topic has been discussed multiple times before, no reason can be find why such an issue brought up again and again. Dey subrata (talk) 17:48, 27 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

National daily is not personal fact for your information dude. He's got a dual citizenship its crystal clear dont make it complicated. Elis59 (talk) 03:45, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Clear statement from Udit Narayan here. [2] Elis59 (talk) 03:54, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"I have been stru ..

The same newspaper publish this too, its simple, Udit Narayan don't want to hurt sentiments of Nepali people thats why he said such even if he said such which need more evidence. Most article says otherwise. It has been discussed, you must read all above discussion, pointless and useless to start again. Dey subrata (talk) 09:57, 28 September 2019 (UTC) Read more at: http://m.timesofindia.com/articleshow/4037648.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst Elis59 (talk) 03:58, 28 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Dey subrata: Nope. He is son of Bihar and he has not told he is Indian. Why should he hurt sentiments . He was awarded Gorkha dakshina by the king . Only Nepali citizens get that so removing that indian nationality is what needs to be done in the article. The point here is he tells Indian media as Bihari and Nepalese media as Nepali so that is one controversial point. Not adding a nationality seems valid . Artists have no borders he says. Nepali father and Indian mother so both nationality according to him.

@Elis59: It not only says, son of Bihar, also saying, its my birth place. This is one such example, you must go through all the above discussion and archived discussion too. I have no time to repeat same things to you when already it has been discussed several times. you are talking about award, so is awaderd Padma Bhusan, only given to Indian citizen. @Abhinam Moktan: Nope, provide WP:Independent reliable source here that says Mr. Narayan is a Nepali citizen, only then it can be further discussed. You, me or any other Wikipedia editor is NOT a reliable source. As for the situation, note that people may be born anywhere, but the current citizenship is what matters. For example, Alia Bhatt is a British citizen, but works in India, Adnan Sami is an Indian citizen, formerly a British citizen, born to Pakistani father and Indian father in London. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:09, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How can you say that Udit narayan is a indian citizenship?? Any reliable proof ?? Udit narayan born in maternal uncle house that doesn't mean that he is Indian. Abhinam Moktan (talk) 17:27, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly people born anywhere....so udit narayan born in maternal uncle house that doesn't mean that he is an Indian. Udit works in Bollywood but Udit narayan himself said he is a Nepali. Even I gone to his birth place bihar even they said he is a nepali it is only birth place and maternal Uncle's house Abhinam Moktan (talk) 17:30, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You said people born anywhere ? Current citizenship matter then show me reliable source that he is a Indian citizen Abhinam Moktan (talk) 17:31, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have a proof that Udit narayan said he is a Nepali and said he was born in maternal uncle house in bihar. So I want to give the video of Uditnarayan said. Abhinam Moktan (talk) 17:32, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

According to Indian nationality law, → "All persons born in India between 26 January 1950 and 1 July 1987 automatically received citizenship by birth regardless of the nationalities of their parents". So Mr. Narayan being born in 1955, is automatically an Indian citizen.
In this interview from a reliable newspaper source (Mid Day), he says →

"They are out to malign me and stop me from being given the recognition that the government thinks I deserve by saying I am not an Indian. They say I was born in Nepal, but that's completely false. I was born in a village called Baisi on the Supaul district of Bihar in 1955 at my maternal grandparents' home,"

"I've been singing for 40 years. I'm as Indian as can be. I've never been involved in any scandal or controversy. The only time I did get into a scandal it was in my own district and engineered by my own Bihari brothers. I'm the most non-controversial guy around,"

Please show a reliable third-party source that says he holds Nepalese citizenship, instead of counter questions and whataboutism. A person of Nepali (or any other) parentage can say that he/she is a Nepali. That doesn't change the citizenship. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:43, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, he said he was born in maternal uncle house in bihar and never said he is indain. He himself said he is a Nepali. Abhinam Moktan (talk) 20:12, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Udit narayan house is in Nepal. His first wife is living there. Without Nepalese citizenship he cannot have a land .his house and land in his Name.electricty bill and drinking bill in his name. Abhinam Moktan (talk) 20:21, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Why I know is because I am Udit narayan neighbour from Nepal. I know everything. What is the truth. I can show the proof. Do contact with me in WhatsApp I show the proof. Abhinam Moktan (talk) 20:23, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You are going against what he said in the interview (an Indian), the excerpt of which I posted above, which is also proven by Indian nationality law of "citizenship by birth". I' not going to contact you on WahtsApp. Please provide a reliable source here in the talk page that says he is a citizen of Nepal. Note that a lot of Nepali-language speakers living in India, having Indian citizenship, identify as 'Nepali' ethno-linguistically, but as Indian when it comes to nationality and citizenship. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:34, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
