Removing the Tag[edit]

The Makiguchi article is preceded by a tag that it needs additional sourcing. IMHO the article is sufficiently sourced. I have contributed to the article in the past so I would like to hear opinions from other editors before removing the tag.

Reminding The FAKE Birthday[edit]

Excuse me! Ladies and Gentlemen, I would like to remind you all that; Tsunesaburō Makiguchi real birthday was on 23 July 1871, NOT 6 June, and also Nichiren real birthday was on 16 February 1222, NOT 6 April! So we hope that everybody NOT to citation the fake of dates, otherwise, you will get error confusion! Thank you and have a nice day...

183.90.37.174 (talk) 17:00, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The date of birth is "明治4年6月6日" in the Japanese calendar. "明治4年6月6日" in the Japanese calendar is the "July 23, 1871" in the Gregorian calendar. --aki4 (talk) 13:43, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
On Wikipedia, should we use the Japanese calendar? --aki4 (talk) 11:17, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We should use what the sources say. Japan uses the Gregorian calendar; the lunisolar Chinese calendar was replaced in 1873. We could add the Chinese date of his birth (年号 + stems and branches), but the official date adjustment for his birth that you've been banging on about unproductively in the past is "6 June 1871". That's how the official calendar works. I don't know where you are finding that date; you need to provide a reliable source for the birth. Ogress smash! 14:58, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ogress I warn you; accusing other people as sockpuppets with no evidence you also may consider as personal attack too!!! Ponyo Vanjagenije Yunshui Mike V Administrator can use the WP:CHECK tool to check the IP addresses on that... Aki42006 Please don't urged this username "Ogress" to prevent you get suspected I'm your sockmaster, they'll get the reliable source in the future and don't worry about that. Zhi Hao Assertions About Makiguchi's Birthdate[edit]

The date of Tsunesaburo Makiguchi's birthday is June 6, not July 23. Stop your baseless claims and constant edits to reflect the wrong date. Pick up a biography on Makiguchi and see it for yourself.

203.92.72.226 You can check on this Japanese version for some thread about the date on "7月23日" is stand for July 23 and "明治4年6月6日" is stand for Japanese old Lunar calender June 6 which was the incorrect date used in Gregorian calender, also you go view on this Wikidata source for finding to search the "date of birth" is 23 July 1871 in "Gregorian" marked position, the biography information that you're mentioned is incorrect record. How dare you said I'm making nonsense? Clear up your mind! Makiguchi's birthday was on July 23, NOT June 6! SA 13 Bro (talk) 14:56, 15 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
203.92.72.226 Please don't add the date right now, I knew there was an birthday disputation. SA 13 Bro (talk) 07:25, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Winston, why don't you add a section to say Makiguchi's reincarnation is you? You seem to believe this, along with other fantasies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.92.72.226 (talk) 02:57, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Makiguchi's reincarnation[edit]

Yes.....upstair you're right, I was Makiguchi in former lifetime which was from Japan reincarnated and pass to Singapore, my name's Lim Zhi Hao (former name was Peh Zhi Hao), usually people are calling me "Zhi Hao". Although I'm doesn't understand Japanese language right now..... SA 13 Bro (talk) 03:49, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Burial/Cremation[edit]

I just removed a sentence saying "The exact burial place of Makiguchi seems to be unknown – no information on that could be retrieved." This seems a bit like a discussion rather than article content so I have removed it. As an aside, is it not more likely as a Buddhist that he was cremated? I could not find any information either way. GodEmperor 16:21, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Seems fair enough, never the less the ashes do get buried too by so way or another. I guess his burial place to be at Taiseki-ji but no source found so far. --Catflap08 (talk) 20:13, 16 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Original research is it?... SA 13 Bro (talk) 00:55, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Handbook of Contemporary Japanese Religions[edit]

I removed the material referring to Chigaku in the Handbook of Contemporary Japanese Religions because upon reading it, it is clear the author has made a major error in the timeline. The basis of the references by Levi McLaughlin also use the Handbook of Contemporary Japanese Religions as the source. The original source states that Makighuchi's own philosophy had no influence from Chigaku. Yet then later it states that Makiguchi may have used Chigaku's group as a source of inspiration for his own group... but Makiguchi had already formed his group, so that is false. It further states that in the postwar era, the Soka Gakkai used similar institutional practices as the Chigaku group, but Makiguchi was obviously not involved in the postwar era because he had passed away in prison during the war. So those statements are also clearly false.Haroli43 (talk) 03:25, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Haroli43 Hi, You were right, Makiguchi religion was Nichiren Buddhism. Please take note that Makiguchi birthday on 23 July 1871 is Gregorian calendar, 6 June 1871 is Lunar calendar, Gregorian 6 June was an incorrect date for citation. Also, Nichiren birthday was on 16 February 1222, Lunar calendar was on 27 January, not Gregorian 6 April, Lunar calendar date on 16 February was belonging to Tiantai master Buddha's birthday, not belonged to Nichiren birthday. Thanks for your edit contributions! SA 13 Bro (talk) 17:55, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Changes 12/26/17[edit]

It would be quite helpful to the credibility of this articles, if some would refrain from deleting well established facts. There does exist a context to each history that the reader should not be deprived from. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.247.253.83 (talk) 12:04, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find any recent history diffs on that, sorry. BTW, best to publish those materials into WP:secondary sources for readers. Here is not a reliable source, and can be WP:CHALLENGE by other editors at any time. SA 13 Bro (talk) 16:21, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

"Sōka Kyōiku Gakkai" section title and content[edit]

Notable is Makiguchi's founding of the Sōka Kyōiku Gakkai, not simply his religious conversion. This is the reason for the section title "Sōka Kyōiku Gakkai" and purpose of the section's content. Two anonymous editors and User:BeccaTrans did not include a rationale in their edit summaries when they changed the section title to "Buddhist conversion" then "Conversion to Buddhism", inserted text not in the source cited, added unsourced material, deleted reliably sourced material, and then added two sources that do not confirm the text inserted. In undoing (see revision 944093483) the first anonymous user's attempt at edits described above, I included this explanation in my edit summary: "restored section title to reflect notability, confirmed and restored text based on source cited." In undoing (see {{Diff|Tsunesaburō Makiguchi|prev| 944742150|revision 944742150) the second anonymous user's attempt at edits described above, I included this explanation in my edit summary: "Unsourced material , possible disruptive editing , possible sneaky vandalism & possible IP sock puppetry." Reliably sourced material about Makiguchi's personal life might fit best in the "Early life" section. The ImDb source cited might be useful in the "In film" section. Tacktician (talk) 17:50, 12 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up after a subsequent repetition of unexplained reverts by more IP addresses, I've moved statements about Makiguchi's religious conversion to the section Early life and career, removing the plagiarized portion and tagging the remainder for a reliable tertiary source for verification. In addition to correcting the text in the section In film, the "Buddhist conversion" section title has been changed to Founder of Sōka Kyōiku Gakkai to accurately reflect the content. On April 28, 2020, Drmies posted on BeccaTrans's talk page that BeccaTrans "is now blocked as a sock puppet; they have a tendency to insert lies in articles, so be careful."Tacktician (talk) 17:59, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Brian Victoria[edit]

I believe the article should include Brian Victoria's opinions. However, notions of "intolerance" have European/Western connotations which should be broadened by cultural and historical context in Japan. 72.89.28.150 (talk) 10:34, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Brian Victoria is an American educator, Doctor of Philosophy, writer, and Buddhist priest. His researches about Makiguchi are not opinions but come from a long study of Makiguchi's writings. Moreover, the paragraph also quotes two researchers balancing Victoria's analysis. Please keep in mind some of WP's principles :

Autobiography tag[edit]

@Raoul mishima, could you elaborate on the rationale for the {{autobiography}} tag? In my view, it's not possible for this to be an autobiography, because Makiguchi died in 1944 and the Wikipedia article was clearly written after that. Jfire (talk) 14:22, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the entire banner says "This article is an autobiography or has been extensively edited by the subject or by someone connected to the subject." Raoul mishima (talk) 12:34, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know that. Can you please explain, in your own words, how that applies in this case? Jfire (talk) 13:20, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lots of primary sources, laudatory statements, lack of NPOV, page looks like an ad. Raoul mishima (talk) 12:51, 3 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
