Bogus assertion[edit]

"Almost all that Prussia had gained by the partitions of Poland (1772–1795) was taken from her. Saxony, a former confederate of Prussia, was the recipient of these provinces; "

This appears to be incorrect. Most of the territory that Prussia had gained by the partitions of Poland, became a french puppet state ( the "Duchy of Warsaw" ?), did not become part of Saxony.Eregli bob (talk) 01:24, 20 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article is correct, but it probably needs to be explained better to avoid a misunderstanding like yours. You are correct about the newly consituted D. of Warsaw taking the bulk of aforementioned provinces, yet the duke of Warsaw was - the king of Saxony (Napoleon had arranged the D. of Warsaw being held by the Saxon king in personal union: in the same Prusso-French treaty of Tilsit, 9 Jul, §15). I propose to rephrase the sentence as follows:

The king of Saxony, a former confederate of Prussia, received these provinces in his newly-created position as the duke of Warsaw.
