Conflict[edit]

It appears that Tory Baucum is the author and editor of this article about himself. This fawning article does not include anything in nature of his termination from his previous church. It appears that he has removed any such inclusions. It also appears he himself is interacting with people who are attempting to edit his page. Is this appropriate? I see what you are talking about. I will report to Wikipedia. Brothercrust (talk) 22:52, 9 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the interested, Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Tory_Baucum. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:41, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It certainly appears that Baucum has heavily influenced this article to not include any evidence of what caused his former church to place him on a leave of absence: https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2020/02/21/prominent-fairfax-church-seeks-explain-rectors-sudden-departure/ Smatherston (talk) 14:53, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes it appears so. Brothercrust (talk) 17:31, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, I am not the subject, I have been following the story for some time, and I am only here to prevent the defamation of the subjects name. I would really like any possible help in resolving this matter in a peaceful way. I am new to editing Wikipedia, and would appreciate any help. The other anonymous individual making edits is currently the pastor of the Truro Anglican church in Fairfax, the subject was a pastor at that church in the past. This individual has been trying to defame the subject since January 2022 "Assburyan", and has since been using anonymous accounts (their ip address location is in Fairfax VA). The reason for this individuals attacks stem from an earlier story about the individuals father I will link from a Washington Post article in 2011 https://www.washingtonpost.com/socialissues-religion-immigration/longtime-truro-church-minister-fired-for-accessing-online-pornograpy-at-work/2011/01/05/aBoT7jD_story.html, this story has deep roots, and there are legal matters masking facts and truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quivira (talkcontribs) 18:18, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You can bring this up at the conflict of interest noticeboard. If the other editor is indeed the current pastor of the church they definitely have a conflict of interest.
Even if you are not the subject of the article, do you have a conflict of interest? Possible reasons for a conflict of interest are:
  • having a personal relationship to the subject
  • being a member of his current or former congregation
  • being in any way involved in the legal matters in which the subject is involved
This list is not exhaustive. Take a look at the relevant help page for more details: WP:COI Random person no 362478479 (talk) 18:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It appears that IP address is simply tied to the Fairfax City zip code. Do you have any proof of your accusation of the current pastor? This may need to be reported further to Wikipedia Smatherston (talk) 19:03, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a troubling response @Quivira and should warrant your removal from the Wikipedia community Everglades704 (talk) 21:19, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re-starting the discussion[edit]

Wow, what a mess. There's a template on the page about one or more editors of the page having a COI. Then there's a blizzard up above and on related pages which if I understand it correctly, means that one editor with 3-4 different user accounts were sockpuppeting and piling on from an anti-Baucum perspective and specifically were complaining about (perhaps?) someone with a pro-Baucum COI editing the article. They were identified as sockpuppets and all of them blocked from editing on WP. Meanwhile, it seems like the article itself could be cleaned up and straightened around without too much trouble. But just wanted to see if I captured the above situation more or less accurately before diving into just straightforward article improvements. I've started to fix this article. The section on peace ministry needs a lot of work. Novellasyes (talk) 20:24, 22 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
