Background[edit]
This event may be a retaliation to a Ukranian doctor saying that imprisoned Russian soldiers should be castrated.

It wasn't a "Russian soldier", it was a Russian policeman[edit]
He was a volunteer from Tuva for the Chechen speicla police unit SOBR Akhmat.
Only a portion of Russian troops in Chechnya are soldiers (memebrs of the military), others are members of various police (interior ministry) units, the FSB, militias, etc.
Similar on the Ukrainian side, by the way, that is Ukrainian combatants also shouldn't be presumed to be soldiers. 5.173.81.130 (talk) 20:41, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oh no. If you look at sources, i.e. [3], [4], they are essentially a private army/paramilitary, but some units (including Akhmad mentioned on this page) were integrated, at least officially, to Russian Army: "In July 2022, Kadyrov formed a new regiment called the 78th Motorised Rifle Regiment and named after Akhmat Kadyrov, which consisted of four conventionally armed battalions named according to the points of a compass. By September, the regiment was reported to be fully staffed and assigned to Russia’s 42nd Motorised Rifle Division.". I assume this is 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Division.
