TOPS all-capitalization is stylization. Looking to move article to standard Wikipedia non-stylized, non-capitalized title[edit]

TOPS (band) article is improperly named for the Wikipedia article, and should be moved to Tops (band) to remove the stylization from an article title.

Wikipedia has policies about using all capitalization on article titles unless they are acronyms (for example, ABBA is the first letters of the band members first names, same with TLC (group), or NSYNC, which is the last letter of the first name of all the band members at the time of the name creation).

The article for TOPS and all references I can find does not indicate that the band name is an acronym. If it is not an acronym, then capitalizing the band title is stylization. The all-caps is a very common usage, and all news articles fully capitalize the bands name, but this is against Wikipedia policy. Before bringing this to the talk page, I took this to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music#Don't think a band title should be all caps, but is there a guideline that is prescriptive about this?, and got some reasons why the article title should not be capitalized. The band name is a trademark, and ruling is guided by WP:TITLETM, which states Article titles follow standard English text formatting in the case of trademarks, unless the trademarked spelling is demonstrably the most common usage in sources independent of the owner of the trademark. Items in full or partial uppercase (such as Invader ZIM) should have standard capitalization (Invader Zim); however, if the name is ambiguous, and one meaning is usually capitalized, this is one possible method of disambiguation.. The only out would be if the name is ambiguous, and there appears to be no other articles named Tops (band), so there does not appear to be a ambiguity that is resolved by capitalization. Other Wikipedia guidelines that apply are MOS:TITLECAPS which states that most articles should be sentence case except titles which follow title case, and title case does not proscribe all capitalization. MOS:ALLCAPS says to avoid using all caps in articles.

I recognize that the stylization of TOPS in all capitalization is strongly entrenched, and changing the article to Tops (band) will be unwelcome, but Wikipedia policy does not support it being in all capitalization. I will wait a week before shifting the article over to allow other editors to provide arguments that support maintaining the stylized article name. If this is too contentious, I can take this over to disputed moves and open the discussion up to a wider community. Mburrell (talk) 01:32, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
