Purpose[edit]

This timeline has been created to give a consolidated chronological listing of the significant dates in the history of the London Underground. It is not intended to include every station opening and closing date, station renaming, or minor operational change. --DavidCane (talk) 01:38, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I recently researched ticketing history for the Travelcard article. I've introduced two dates to this article based on that. Firstly 1983: the introduction of zones to all of Greater London, and secondly 1991: the split of zone 5 in two, creating the zones we have today. There were other changes, but in the spirit of only listing significant changes, I think this covers it. MRSC (talk) 12:25, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Would Crossrail and London Overground come under Underground for the purposes of this article? --2620:104:4001:72:143B:D442:1D27:C448 (talk) 13:21, 28 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No, but they could have their own timelines. There is one item on the timeline for the reopening of the East London Line as part of Overground which is included to complete the history of that line. There is one mention of Crossrail tunnelling starting. This timeline was written for the London Underground only, although operated by TfL via London Rail Crossrail and London Overground are mainline services.--DavidCane (talk) 21:50, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

London Underground[edit]

Here's one for you. When did the London Underground first start being called the London Underground and when was this adopted? Simply south (talk) 16:47, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

1908 - it's already in the timeline.--DavidCane (talk) 21:11, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
