Three-finger salute (pro-democracy) → The Hunger Games salute – I believe that it has been acknowledged in commentary regarding the subject of its origins in Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games series. Weak oppose. "Three-finger salute" appears to be the much more common term used to refer to the gesture, both in the series and real-world contexts (as reflected in both articles linked in the nom). The gesture has far outgrown its origins in the novel/film series, and calling it the "Hunger Games salute" can seem rather misleading as to its real-world significance, which is what lends notability to the topic. The real-world political meaning has also drifted from its original meaning in the series, and the title should probably reflect that the former is the article's main scope. That said, I agree the (pro-democracy) disambiguator is rather clunky, though I can't quite think of a better alternative. Three-finger salute (The Hunger Games) might be most recognisable form that best helps readers identify the topic, but it fails in conciseness compared to both the current and proposed titles, and doesn't really satisfy my other points either. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:34, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

- Agree with User:Paul 012 to change the title, but do so differently. Also, per WP:NATURALDISAMBIGUATION, "The Hunger Games" salute does not seem to be the primary topic here; I am under the impression that it is rarely used, if at all. The Guardian calls it by Three-finger salute, in official The Hunger Games wiki Fandom it is also called Three Finger Salute. Scout Salute[edit]

The Scout sign is held at shoulder height or touching the eyebrow. The Hunger Games three-finger salute is done with the hand raised above the head. You're right, people need to put common sense aside and find an online left-wing source that will specifically outline that the Scout salute, which nearly everyone has seen, is the inspiration for the three-finger salute in Hunger Games. Questions on the prevalence of terminology[edit]

Revisiting title[edit]

Seeing as there's been reports of anti-vaxxers using the gesture, this may be time to revisit the article title issue. I'm less inclined to oppose (The) Hunger Games salute, though I still think forms that reflect the three-finger description such as Three-finger salute (protest symbol) or Three-finger salute (The Hunger Games) might be slightly preferable. --Paul_012 (talk) 08:05, 11 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
