Third Republic of Vietnam, Really?[edit]

I am surprised that there is even no page of the so-called "Third Republic of Vietnam" in Vietnamese. It's hilarious!Bùi Công Chức (talk) 09:50, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Guys, listen up, I'm sorry for causing this edit war. But basically, there is nothing as "Government" in this article. The "Third Republic of Vietnam" is just an organization which was founded by some delusional old men, including Quan Minh Dao. Freevietnamnow1, please stop this progpaganda, together we reveil the truth about this crazy Quan Minh Dao. What has he done? Livestreaming and call for protests when he sit safely in America? Stop being delusional, please — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:56a:71aa:1700:cc04:c99a:d0c9:b65e (talkcontribs) 03:46, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, I do not have any RELIABLE sources to prove that the "Third Republic of Vietnam" is a non-profit organization. However, I am sure that the article needs to be edited. Firstly, this is not a GOVERNMENT. Why? Because it was founded on the land of US. How can a government of a country can be founded on a foreign country's land? If "The Third Republic of Vietnam" really is a government, then why the United States and other countries do not recognize them? Secondly, it is true that no one in Vietnamese communities around the globe recognize them as a "Government". Remember, Quan Minh Dao and the previous leader of the organization were elected by no one. Isn't that self-proclaim? If he is not a "Prime Minister" or "President" of Vietnamese, why does he tell Vietnamese inside Vietnam to protest and be side-by-side with his "government"? Finally, please look at the reference once again. Is there anything like the letter of Quan Minh Dao to a court. The source wrote "Đơn kiện CSVN do CPQGVNLT sẽ đệ nạp Tòa Hình Sự Quốc Tế tại Tây Ban Nha", which means " The petition of the Provisional National Government of Vietnam to sue Vietnamese communist will be given to the International Criminal Court in Spain". In spite of that, the article wrote:" Given to a California court". That is the first mistake in this part. The second part, if the "Third Republic of Vietnam" is not a government, Quan Minh Dao is a US citizen, how can the court accept the lawsuit? He is nothing but a normal US citizen. He sue Vietnamese Communist regime for stealing his Republic of Vietnam to get 36000 billion dollars compensation. That is an impossible amount of money, he does not own any land of Vietnam sovereignty. Then, what is the point of the lawsuit? If the court replied Quan, why didn't he show the reply letter for everyone to see? That is all I have to tell. Please let me know if there is any problem or if you need sources ST47.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:56a:71aa:1700:cc04:c99a:d0c9:b65e (talkcontribs) 05:26, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • User:2001:56a:71aa:1700:cc04:c99a:d0c9:b65e - Let me ask some questions, keep in mind that I'm just a random guy with no special knowledge about this topic, so I don't know anything about the people involved, and I need verifiable reliable sources to convince me. (And any other interested party is welcome to look in to these questions as well, and provide their own answers. I'm not on any "side" here, I'll consider all suggestions equally.)
    • What should this article be called? What name is this most commonly used name of this organization? Does it have a legal name? Is it "Third Republic of Vietnam"?
    • Should there be a Wikipedia article about this? Does this subject meet notability criteria? In particular, does this organization have significant coverage in multiple independent reliable secondary sources? If not, should it be deleted?
    • Who founded the Third Republic of Vietnam? Were any of the founders ever part of Vietnam's government? Do they have any reasonable claim at all to be the legitimate government of Vietnam, or any part of it?
    • What is the status of their lawsuit? Has any court, either in California or elsewhere, ruled on or answered to their charges?
  • Most importantly, can you find any sources other than the entity itself, or the actual vietnamese government, that answer these questions?
  • If so, you might want to consider copying this article into your own user space as a draft, making some changes, and submitting an edit request. It's easiest if you register for an account, then you won't have to worry about your IP address potentially changing. I can help you with this process if you want, but I know very little about this topic, so I'll need you to do the research and recommend the changes that Wikipedia should make to this article. Calm down Heimlich Huy27 (talk) 14:43, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I absolutely agree with ST47. Instead of posting what is heavily opinionated, we should look through more sources regarding this entity. I'd also like to point out some things 2001:56a:71aa:1700:cc04:c99a:d0c9:b65e had argued. First of all, a government-in-exile does not have to be created in the actual country (that defeats the purpose of being "exiled"), such as the Central Tibetan Administration, which is based in India. Second, if the article was truly incorrect about where Quan's letter was presented, why not correct it? That does not justify the fact that you proceeded to add "although there is a word "government" in its name in order to trick people" and "Although being called the 'successor state' of the South Vietnam, this organization has not been recognized by any Vietnamese community all around the world. Additionally, the organization does not have any legal authority in Vietnam sovereignty" which are politically biased. Third, why would him being a US citizen change anything? The reason why he is just a US citizen is because of the end of the South Vietnamese government, which is exactly why he is fighting for it and establishing the "Third Republic" in the first place. Lastly, owning land in Vietnam would defeat the purpose of a "government-in-exile" altogether as similarly mentioned earlier; that's the equivalent of saying the Central Tibetan Administration isn't a government-in-exile or the former Khmer Rouge which was recognized by the UN even after being ousted by Vietnam in 1979. Going back to my point, we cannot just conclude that this "Third Republic" is "not a government-in-exile" or an entity that is "tricking people". Rather, we must do more research with respect to Wikipedia's policy which includes not posting anything that could potentially be biased. Addressing the key issues over this article[edit]

Hello, I'm one of the major contributors to this article, and after witnessing many edit disputes revolving it, I think we need to better address the problems that have arisen in a civil, professional way (this article has been involved in two major edit wars in the past few months). First, I'd like for everyone to work out the lack of a neutral tone, swaying towards one side and another. I'd also like for everyone to discuss the Third Republic of Vietnam's status whether as a government-in-exile or an organization. Lastly is the lack of details that have been added to this article itself, as it doesn't specify much of the Third Republic of Vietnam's history, along with very few sources; I think this is the cause for this ongoing dispute. I suggest we all take these problems into consideration and revise this article together to better fit Wikipedia's standards, because I personally think it's ridiculous to just edit back and forth and not see the whole issue of this article. If none of us cannot reach an agreement, I would like to see this article deleted altogether to end this dispute. Thank you. Virtuous09 (talk) 04:57, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see this discussion before, but theoretically every government-in-exile is an organisation, as they don't really have lands to govern over. --Donald Trung (talk) 05:21, 13 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well technically they do partly control the Orange county and operate on it so it's technically their territory, technically Heimlich Huy27 (talk) 14:41, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No no no we should keep this article alive for the overseas Vietnamese people to know Heimlich Huy27 (talk) 14:42, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Detained American (2018)[edit]

@BSMRD:, regarding this edit. Perhaps it's because of the news coverage, plus it was kind of an international incident since it was an American being arrested?

The arrests of individual members can be notable if covered reputable news sources, in fact, it could be added to a "Timeline" section where the timeline of this organisation is documented and such activities can be chronologically documented if sufficient coverage exists. --Donald Trung (talk) 18:55, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You folks need to calm down[edit]

As a Vietnamese person who lives in mainland Vietnam,I can definitely understand and sympathise with Dao Minh Quan's I mean he lost everything to the communist regime and had to fled to the US he deserved better,I mean his so called "Third Republic of Vietnam" is somewhat widely recognised by the overseas Vietnamese people (including me although I lives in Vietnam) don't get me wrong I'm not saying that this lad isn't crazy or hasn't gone insane what I'm saying is let him be it's just a government in exile of course it wouldn't be legitimate if I have a chance to choose between the Third Republic of Vietnam or the current Authoritarian Totalitarian communist regime I would choose Quan's government at least there's no censorship or suppression ,not gonna lie folks if Quan was a separatist then the US would have lost the Orange County soon or late , he's a madlad let him be,let him have fun with his government in exile it's better letting him feasting on the orange county rather than him become a terrorist and start to terrorise innocent people in Vietnam.
