Young Duke of Northumberland[edit]

Under "Life," we are told that "from 1754 to 1756 he travelled on the continent of Europe as tutor to the young Duke of Northumberland." However, this doesn't say which Duke it's referring to, and the link is to the general page about the Dukedom -- the peerage, not the particular peer. I think it ought to link to the specific Duke in question, or at least mention which one it was. (I mean, it's not like when somebody is created a peer they lose the right to go by their own name! :) ) Problem is, I couldn't find *any* of the numerous persons who've held that title over the centuries who fit the description and time period; i.e., who was Duke of Northumberland in 1754-6 and was supposedly "young" at that time. Indeed, as far as I can tell there *was* no Duke of Northumberland, young or otherwise, during the years mentioned. The closest possible candidate I could find was Hugh Percy, 1st Duke of Northumberland, but he wasn't actually created Duke (according to the Wikipedia page) until 1766. So, we have a bit of an inconsistency here. Can anybody solve this riddle? Am I missing something?

Is it possible that it was the 1st Duke's son (also named Hugh), who was tutored by Lindsey? The age fits (he would have been a teenager at the time), but he didn't become Duke until 1786. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.111.234.195 (talk) 02:27, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
