Release date[edit]

I'm unable to verify that the album was released in 1988. The only somewhat-good sources I can find say February 1989.

Early 1989 is more plausible than 1988, because it's unlikely the lead single "She Drives Me Crazy", released January 1st (if that's accurate), would've come out later than the album. The album also didn't chart in the U.S. until March, so it seems unlikely to have been released much before then, given how insanely popular "She Drives Me Crazy" was.

Previously, Discogs was cited for the 1988 date. Unfortunately, Discogs is not an ideal reference for release dates, because 99% of the time, people either just copy the release date from another edition, or they assume the latest copyright date is the year of release. A look at the editing history of the "1988" items in Discogs seems to confirm this is exactly what happened.

It is true that the latest copyright date usually does coincide with the year of release, but there are exceptions. Record labels would prepare items for an end-of-year release, and then would delay the release until after the winter holidays. This results in the artwork copyright dates looking like they're a year behind. I believe that may have happened with this album, and resulted in different editions of this album bearing different copyright dates, depending on when and where they were made. So the copyright dates aren't much help; we must look to outside sources.

Sadly, there is no master schedule of release dates we can consult. I have added citations for February 1989 as appearing in a couple of album guides, one of which is a UK publication and the other is a US publication. This really isn't ideal, either, because album guides are often full of errors, since they're relying on outside "expert" contributors who get their info from who-knows-where. Schwann is a bit better for US release dates (they got info from the labels), but for this album it actually says April 1989, which seems a bit late to me (but perhaps accurate nonetheless).

So if someone has access to a press release or something else official, please speak up or edit further, as needed... —mjb (talk) 07:05, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re-releases in 2011, 2020[edit]

Hello Wikipedians,

Both FYC's eponymous album and The Raw and The Cooked were re-released in 2011 as deluxe sets, and in 2020 as expanded sets. Only the 2011 eponymous deluxe set has been noted on Wikipedia. I don't know a lot about the albums (outside that I once had the 2011 sets (before losing them in a fire), and the 2020 sets just arrived in the mail today, so I haven't gone over the liner notes yet), so I can only add the basics.

If anyone has more details than the track listings (such as why they re-released the albums), feel free to update the pages.

Thanks. --- Paploo (talk) 04:36, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
