De-saturated color[edit]

The film is described in the article as using de-saturated color to evoke a sense of the Holocaust. This is untrue. The film (in its original state) is incredibly vibrant in terms of color. The Criterion DVD (R1, USA) is de-saturated but this is a defective digital transfer rather than an original intention. Compare it with the Istituto Luce DVD (the restored version, R2 Europe). Agreed. Parts of it are a mess and sometimes make no sense. The "themes" section almost read as if it was output from language translations software. I copyedited the themes portion but it still needs sourcing -- where is this from? Someone's film appreciation class paper? I agree with the previous comment. Apart from the first sentence, the whole of the ‘themes’ section seems to have been added in one edit on 12 October 2009. In the absence of any sources, this appears to be a rather individual interpretation of the film, and I would suggest that we should undo that particular edit.
