Comment[edit]

PROD template removed because this pub is of some significance in the UK and London gay scene and as a musical performance venue. Needs work, however.HeartofaDog 01:29, 12 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Withnail & I reference[edit]

The text regarding the name of the pub in the 1986 film 'Withnail & I' implied that this was the pub used in the film.

> In the 1986 film Withnail & I it is called The "Mother Black Cap"

The Black Cap wasn't the pub featured in exterior shots of the movie (that pub was at 41 Tavistock Crescent), and the pub in the movie had a different name. So it's questionable whether the possible combination of The Black Cap with that of another pub is factual enough to be included. Even the source material says it is "presumably" a combination of the two.

I have added what looks like a better source. Maybe the there should be something in there like "It has been claimed that..." Tigerboy1966  20:21, 3 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Drag acts such as Danny La Rue, and Hinge and Bracket started their careers at the pub"[edit]

I can find no evidence that either of those acts started in the Black Cap.

Danny La Rue was an established performer by the 1960s. Hinge and Bracket certainly played London pubs, Patrick Fyffe as a solo act in the 60s but no evidence that I can find that they started in this pub
