Rename this page?[edit]

There is no consensus about the name of the taxonomic class to which these animals should be assigned. There are 3 candidates, to my knowledge: Cricoconarida Fisher 1962, Tentaculitoidea Lyashenko 1957, or Tentaculita Bouček 1964. There is no concensus which to use, but obviously we must choose one for the name of the page.

I think the majority of the recent literature uses Tentaculitoidea Lyashenko since that was promoted by Lardeux in 1969, but there could be an argument from general Wikipedia principles for using the Treatise name Cricoconarida as that is the standard reference (although now considerably outdated). The problem with Bouček's Tentaculita is that it has to be amended to remove the Cornulitida and Coleoida which are not now considered related to the tentaculites.

What do others think?

Just an FYI: please do not cite the Taxonomicon entry, it is erroneous. I have got them to correct it but the correction will not be live until their next data upload much later this year. MisterCDE (talk) 23:48, 19 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
