Gazanfer Bircan and CIPA[edit]

Regarding the "In the Media" section on the wiki page for CIPA: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congenital_insensitivity_to_pain_with_anhidrosis#In_the_media

The show Sleepers is mentioned because of the character Gazanfer Bircan. Can anyone better explain the history of this character? Did he have CIPA only as a child and then some symptoms appeared later (at 30 years old), or has he had CIPA since he was a child (which makes a lot more sense)? Why does he hurt others because of his disease?

I only speak English, and so can't watch this show. I would like to improve the explanation on the CIPA page.
