Markham image[edit]

what as the markham image to do with subdivision?
- it is named "suburbs" but labeled here "subdivision"
- is the term used outside the US for what the article describes?

Yes, it's an odd choice, to illustrate an article that is entirely about US law and says nothing about whatever laws may apply to the pictured place.

The Markham photo shows a classic suburban subdivision. The concept of subdividing land is not limited whatsoever to the U.S., and the fact that the text of the article desperately requires to be broadened to have a more global perspective should not serve as justfication to make the image selection even more U.S.-centric. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 18:20, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Markham subdivision pic caption says "... Markham, Ontario ..." which is in Canada, not the USA. The article also has a picture from Sydney, apparently Australia, and a picture from New Zealand. Under the section "Definition", there are subsections covering the Philipines and Alberta, apparently in Canada. If you know about land subdivision outside of the USA, maybe you can expand the article to give a more worldly view. H Padleckas (talk) 21:51, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removed Tag[edit]

There was an "globalize/USA" which I removed, since "subdivision" is almost entirely a term used in the United States and Canada. If you search Wikipedia for single family housing built as multiple units at one time on land by dividing one large parcel of land into smaller parcels, then you will find nothing but this one.

Also the "Subdivision" article is only about the political subdivision of political entities, particularly countries.

Definition of Subdivision[edit]

A subdivision should be a part of some whole. That would properly be a comprehesive regional master plan and a municiple plan which is a part of that.
