The term 'Britpop'[edit]

Did he really coin this term. Our Britpop article attributes it to John Robb in 1989. Admittedly neither Blue nor Oasis existed then, but Robb was discussing similar bands.--MartinUK (talk) 07:29, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

but are they bands that would later be regarded as britpop pioneers once the term became popular? If you do a search of google books in the 1980s you can see the term was used infrequently over the years to refer to a variety of things. I wonder if Robb was just the one of these that happened to be closest to the later popular use? JMiall 08:31, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sexuality[edit]

Ubiquity on TV lists shows[edit]

I vote the comment "His career at present consists of appearing as an opinionated talking head on TV list shows" stays (further to the recent edits). I made a sarcastic comment on this a while ago which was rightly deleted but putting it politely like this is acceptable, as it is all he is known to be doing these days. --Thoughtcat 13:31, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, apart from a Radio 2 show you mean? Oh, and a 6 Music show aswell? --Juux 20:05, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Thoughtcat" is right. Maconie's boundless and seemingly inexhaustible endowment to these vexatious TV list shows needs to be acknowledged: why not here? This is, after all, his Wikipedia page. Above, Juux rightly states that Maconie also works at Radio 2 and 6 Music (already in the article), but as the list shows are seemingly an immense wedge of Maconie's oeuvre, why are they not included here? Maybe a fan of his (perhaps the man himself?) has removed them as they perhaps create the unwanted impression of Maconie as some kind of media whore.

Clarification re year & place of birth[edit]

Stuart's categorised as being a 1960 birth & as a person from Wigan. However in the first para, his DOB is given as 13/8/61 and his place of birth as Whiston. I know Whiston & Wigan are not that far apart but they are separate towns.

Can anyone clarify/correct as necessary? --Whoosher 08:56, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stuart admits in his book "Pies and Prejudice" that he was born in Whiston Hospital for some unfathomable reason, but he has spent most of his life in Wigan. --138.253.45.182 13:09, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Year of birth was originally given as 1960 as per imdb. Other more reliable sources give 1961, so article and cat have been corrected. Cjc13 (talk) 20:22, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
His DOB is now showing as 13/08/75, which surely can't be correct if he was working as a teacher in 1987. Clarification/correction anyone? GBev1987 (talk) 13:18, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Does he give a date in his autobiography? Online sources suggest 13 August 1961, but none look reliable. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:37, 12 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
