Church Historian and Recorder[edit]

According to this article, Snow was released from the Presidency of the Seventy on February 11, 2012. This is so he can be trained to succeed Marlin K. Jensen as Church Historian and Recorder in October 2012 when Jensen is granted Emeritus status. In trying to add this information to the info box, I came upon an error that I can't clear up on my own. HELP! Hi! The Church News article was printed that day, but it does not indicate a related date, nor does the print date mean it was the effective date of the release. This link (http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/elder-maynes-called-serve-the-presidency-seventy) is dated the previous day and there was information in late January at Church Headquarters of the new assignment for Elder Maynes. It is certainly accurate to identify the Church News article as a source for the change, but a release date is not as firm as the Wikipedia article about Elder Snow would indicate if 12 Feb 2012 as the release date is left in. I understand where you're coming from. But I think consistency is the key word here. And the fact is, WP policy on consistency is that the consensus rules. And the consensus on the two other WP pages about this change (Seventy (Latter Day Saints) & Richard J. Maynes is that the February 11 date (the date of the Church News article, and the date after the official LDS acknowledgement of the change) is the effective date. See those pages for details. The Church News article said that the changes are "effective immediately," which means that the February 12 date should be used here. Please comment on those pages if you want to change the consensus. In the meantime, I'm reverting the change unless and until a different consensus is built. According to LDS.org, Maynes's date of call was January 20, 2012, and Snow was released on that day. My apologies for not doing better research. The January date has been included in the article. Thanks for your efforts and research in all areas of your Wikipedia work, the recent changes in the Presidency of the Seventy being no exception. I would just add my complete support to your notes above about the importance of consistency across articles. I could not agree more on the importance of that principle. No need to apologize. That is sometimes the nature of things that aren't as clear or defined as it would be nice to have them! Just keep up the great, great work you are doing.
