Boys And Girls[edit]

Boys And Girls Like You and Me is not derived from Oklahoma!, but rather from Cinderella. PBuG —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.162.0.249 (talk) 06:23, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to this [[1]], the song "Boys and Girls..." was an unused song from "Oklahoma!" Regardless of having a reliable source, I shall not change the reference to "Cinderella" which has recently been added. Perhaps the editor knows something that the writer of the article (Ted Chapin) I referenced does not, or perhaps that article is incorrect. Or... JeanColumbia 10:23, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To add: this article also states that the song "Boys and Girls..." was cut from Oklahoma!: [2].

This is again, from the R&H site, perhaps there is a source independent of that site which can shed some light on this.JeanColumbia 10:31, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Further info about where this song comes from. From the book "Show Tunes: The Songs, Shows, and Careers of Broadway's Major Composers" By Steven Suskin, page 104, Published 2000, Oxford University Press US, ISBN 0195125991:

cut; subsequently used in stage version of STATE FAIR (March 27, 1996)

Based on all of the above, I am changing the source of the song back to "Oklahoma!." I believe that the reliable, verifiable source guidelines of Wikipedia are met. JeanColumbia 19:07, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think i misunderstood the poster's intentions--so, I'll leave the item as is, since it now(another helpful editor rides to the rescue) clearly shows that it was cut from Oklahoma!. The question of whether it was also cut from Cinderella is another question. (Confused? I am.)JeanColumbia 19:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if the song was cut from the 1957 tv musical Cinderella. I do know that the song was cut from the movies Meet Me in St. Louis and Take Me Out to the Ball Game, but was used in the City Opera Cinderella (2004) and the Paper Mill Cinderella (2005). (I'm done with this song, before I get tagged for irrelevance.)JeanColumbia 19:34, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the 1957 TV songlist. As you point out, later productions, and indeed the vocal selections, include "Boys and Girls". I really don't know whether it was originally intended to be included in the TV broadcast. I'll make a weaselly edit that should be good enough. -- Ssilvers 22:03, 12 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
