Untitled[edit]

I've pieced this page together from various sources, a lot of it taken from the Kingsmill massacre article. However it still needs work. We need to know some facts like;

  • When the unit was established
  • What were its constituent units
  • What was its command structure
  • What was its equipment
  • What was its duties/policing role
  • Who disbanded it and why

NPOV tag[edit]

Without the info above the article is really unbalanced as it focuses on the bad elements, also no background Weggie 14:16, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In the absence of detail, and due to the fact that time has elapsed without any attempt to rectify the alleged bias, this is simply 'drive by tagging' and should be removed. I will add further information to the page - that is contained in the Barron Report on 'The Bombing of Key's Tavern'.

The article does not deal with the SPG just Orange Section. It then uses these facts to tarnish the other 14 units based elsewhere Rucksac (talk) 02:28, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article is basically a WP:POV fork - an excuse to have yet another article about collusion. It doesn't even attempt to offer a counter view. It discusses only one SPG unit, against which allegations have been made, and says nothing at all about any of the other units. I've added the tag. Then be bold. If you have reliably sourced info about other SPG units or reliably sourced "counter views", add it. ~Asarlaí 22:42, 6 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
But, as I'm sure you understand, that's the beauty of the POV fork - there is no "reliably sourced info about 'other SPG units'", because other SPG units did nothing sufficiently notable for anyone to write about them. This is, in reality, an article about particular activities by one particular SPG unit at a particular time, masquerading as an article about all SPG units - basically a rehash of material already covered at Reavey and O'Dowd killings. Mooretwin (talk) 10:21, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What do you suggest? Since the SPG was only active for a short time and was notable for its collusion, it makes sense that a big part of the article would be about that. We can't write about other SPG units if we don't have info about them. Also, this article covers much more than the Reavey-O'Dowd killings. ~Asarlaí 12:59, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
What do I suggest? Several options - redirect to Reavey and O'Dowd; redirect to article about collusion; redirect to RUC; or retitle as something like Armagh Special Patrol Group (RUC). (What is covered here that's not, or couldn't be, in the Reavey/O'Dowd article?) Mooretwin (talk) 13:56, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or merge this article[edit]

Given the above, and the subsequent creation of the Glenanne gang article, this article should be deleted or merged with Glenanne gang (for reasons noted above). Mooretwin (talk) 13:25, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Comment[edit]

I've come across this article today for the first time. It's a terrible piece which doesn't tell the history of the Special Patrol Group at all but concentrates on the activities of a couple of rogue members. I intend to change this as I have several sources at hand on the subject. All help appreciated. I've already removed some of the worst POV but will leave the tag in place until I have turned it into a proper article. SonofSetanta (talk) 16:29, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is simply a piece of republican propaganda. It quoutes only from sources that show that some members of the SPG in one particular region, unsurprisingly, has sympathies with members of an organisation intent on killing memebers of the gang who wanted to kill police and army officers.
