Hmm, no allmusic guide entry for these guys. That's usually a poor sign of significance for an american band. Anyone know if they come close to meeting WP:MUSIC guidelines? Friday (talk) 18:15, 27 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here are some of the requirements they meet:

-It has been the subject of multiple non-trivial published works whose source is independent from the musician/ensemble itself and reliable.

-Has gone on an international concert tour, or a national concert tour in at least one large or medium-sized country, reported in reliable sources.

-Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability.

That seems all very well and good, but I cannot find verifiable evidence of the above claims. If they are true, then the article would do well to have these claims substantiated with some citations. As it is, six years have now passed and the article has yet to receive a single source. None of the record labels mentioned here have an independent Wikipedia article, which further undermines a claim of notability. KDS4444Talk 07:16, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

they haven't won a grammy[edit]

But yeah, they've toured all over the U.S. & are well-known on the punk/DIY circuit. Allmusic really only reviews stuff channeled thru the major labels & major indie distros. Which is not really a good barometer for the importance of musicians who deliberately work outside the industry and/or emphasize live performance over selling records.

BTW, the music notability guidelines are kind of garbage.

Well, surely coverage in music press is a better barometer then? Have they had any? We have no sources right now. Friday (talk) 14:33, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, in major punk zines like Maximumrocknroll and Punk Planet. Neither of which have online archives. Exitr 17:13, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Soophie Nun Squad are pretty well known in DiY circles. Soophie's stuff is well distrubited all across the US by way of the No Idea Records distro. Soophie are pretty well known thanks to their connection to Plan-It-X Records, who are becoming way popular. I know lots of people out on the west coast who have heard Soophie Nun Squad. I live in Seattle, and I hear the name once and a while. Even though it's been 8 years since they toured this coast, and when they did, they never even played in Seattle. --StarBrano 22:59, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion has been seen on a lot of Anarcho and DIY band's pages. I find it unfortunate that because a band chooses to travel the country instead of running a marketing campaign they are getting suggested for deletion. Soophie Nun Squad are a very significant band for a large group of people. But not the ones that have the connections to things like Rolling Stone or the RIAA(not that they would want either of them).
It is not the point of Wikipedia to create a record of everything that exists, and assertions that a band is notable without providing evidence of that notability is not sufficient to warrant inclusion. What the article itself and this talk page emphasize is the outsider nature of this band— so outside, in fact, that they do not appear in the regular press... Anywhere. I am afraid that this is not the basis on which Wikipedia operates. Is this band notable? All anyone can ask is for someone to prove it. So far, no one has been able to do so. Perhaps because the band is not notable (?). KDS4444Talk 07:16, 16 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
