nationality[edit]

There has been a series of edits and reversions today over the description of his nationality. My impression was that once a player has played representative football, the country he represents becomes regarded as his defining nationality. This has certainly been applied to U-21 players: is there a convention that it does not apply below U21? Jackson's name has long been accompanied by a Maple leaf on the Gillingham page. Gillingham youth player[edit]

If he was rejected whilst on trial how could he have played for them in his youth? "He was on trial with them" would be a better phrase imo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.167.133 (talk) 20:03, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead section reverts by PeeJay2K3[edit]

I made a constructive lead section edit removing an unnecessary line break WP:NBSP. Further removed a redundant fact, which appears on two separate occasions within one sentence of each other, stating that Jackson is an international soccer player. Finally, removed his previous clubs because they have only been listed as opposed to appropriately summarized and supported by salient facts, figures, accomplishments related to these clubs. You seem to be under the impression that simply stating his previous clubs is a relevant and technically accurate summary, which is not supported by WP:LEAD, WP:MOS.

Your reverts have been constituted on personal opinion and ownership warring. Jackson's extended club history is in the body; his listed club history is in the sidebar. Listing his club history without syntax in the lead is not appropriate, it's redundant and needs to be summarized to meet style guides and (potentially) relevancy. If his status and accomplishments does not make obvious a summary, then he is probably not befitting of one. You will find many minimal summaries without club history, on players more prominent than Simeon Jackson. see: Eddie Johnson (American soccer), Nick Rimando, Michael Bradley (soccer), Omar Gonzalez, Jay Rodriguez. --Nonc01 (talk) 11:58, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have written a completely new lead which hopefully summarises the article nicely. Does this resolve the dispute at all........? -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 13:07, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I should think so, well done. I may add some minor tweaks but it's really good I see no need to change what you've presented. Nonc01 (talk) 13:27, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Moving to Barcelona age 14[edit]

I've just removed the following from the wiki page:

In January 2020 he stated in an interview with a Canadian newspaper that he was close to joining FC Barcelona when he was 14 but the move collapsed due to his parents being unwilling to move.[citation needed] (third sentence of the early years paragraph).

I can't find any such record from any newspaper, so I would be pleased if a Canadian user could investigate this as well. I believe there is a mention to FC Barcelona in this link: https://theathletic.co.uk/1683741/2020/03/20/norwich-city-greatest-goals-simeon-jackson-fox/ , but I don't have a subscription.
