Siege or Battle?[edit]

Remove Ukrainian claims?[edit]

I think we should just put unknown instead of unsubstantiated Ukrainian claims. If not, we should definitely put both Ukrainian and Russian claims IdkIdc12345 (talk) 21:15, 26 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ukraine is more trustworthy than Russia, and in some cases, Russia has not made a claim, so it is not possible to list both. I do think we should list claims as long as they are clearly marked as such. NicolinoChess31415926 (talk) 20:52, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Part of Kyiv offensive[edit]

As the Russian troops had failed to capture Chernihiv and instead opted for a different route to Kiev, bypassing the city, can we consider it part of the kyiv offensive? It is currently not listed on any offensive (kyiv or eastern). RGoes (talk) 22:27, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think, just as Sumy isn't considered part of the Kyiv offensice, even though Russian troops from that area advanced on Kyiv, Chernihiv should be considered separate. While forces from the assault on Chernihiv would have gone towards Kyiv if Chernihiv had fallen, the goal of taking Chernihiv, just like Sumy, was more in line with the Northeastern offensive. I think the best info says Ukraine has retaken all of Chernihiv oblast, but I haven't found any sources quite as reliable enough yet. It may be a couple days before its confirmed. Wolf359Locutus (talk) 16:38, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Need a citation for that- i've seen reports that the Ukrainians secured the borders of Sumy oblast but combat is still ongoing in parts of Chernihiv according to the UKR general staff so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Yokohama1989 (talk) 22:48, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The city of Chernihiv is not as big as Chernihiv oblast; actually no were near as big.... This Wikipedia article is about the city, not the province (=Oblast) Chernihiv. The ISW map of yesterday shows in my interpretation of it that there were yesterday Russian soldiers in Chernihiv oblast, not in Chernihiv city. I understand that article is about the city of Chernihiv rather than the oblast, but Yahidne for example is located on highway M01 which is south of Chernihiv. If the ukrainian military only recently fully resecured the road links between Chernihiv and Kyiv wouldn't that imply that Russian forces are at least located near Chernihiv, especially with the Russian "frontline" map in Chernihiv- made by ISW, being only a few kilometers north of the city itself?

With confirmation from the oblast governor I think it is appropriate to say that the siege of Chernihiv has ended though. Yokohama1989 (talk) 16:41, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong translation[edit]
