Is this still a stub?[edit]

To everyone and especially @LadyofShalott and Dennis Brown:

Although this article has a much more start-class appearance than when it was assessed as a stub, much of the body text is from a primary source or seems to be common sense blown in as enfluffment. (I mean, I'm pro-wikilinks but I simply had to delink "hugs.")

The article's structure and especially the content hanging from it are still very weak, although not weak enough to delete the article. I'm on the fence about its stubbiness.

BTW, I haven't checked the Bollywood named reference to see if it contains more than a passing mention of Siblings Day in America. If it doesn't, then those refs do not apply.

Also, I'm sure a photo of celebrating siblings could be found in the Commons, but I wonder if someone asked if the foundation itself would release images and its logo to either the Commons or Wikipedia under a less free license.

Sorry all I can do is point these things out, but my real-life limitations won't let me do more than this. I probably won't even be able to go dump education on the talk page of the vandal who l mentioned in one of my article edit summaries, although I'll try.   • I just haven't worked on it much since I started it. Passing mention refs are ok if they are sourcing a specific thing. I think this is big enough that there isn't a worry about WP:Notability now. And by all means, jump in and improve it, it sounds like you already have some ideas. Some minor fixes[edit]

I was just perusing the article and noticed the red-lined links in the lead so I've gone ahead and fixed those, as well as one incident of capitalisation. I also removed the link to Claudia Evert as there's currently no article for this person and figured that if someone does make an article in the future, it could be added in. Apologies if that was the wrong way to do it. I'm British and I've never heard of it being celebrated[edit]

I'm not sure some UK Newspaper article about siblings day counts as proof that it is celebrated in the UK. I'm British and lived in Britain all my life and I'd never heard of it until I saw the link on Wiki from another page.Lkingscott (talk) 23:08, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Information to be added or removed: I am writing to request changes to the the Siblings Day article on Wikipedia to correct information added in error. The European Large Families Confederation's Brothers and Sisters Day should have its own article.

Explanation of issue: Bothers and sisters Day (May 31)[1] is a separate holiday from Siblings Day (April 10th) [2] and is on a separate day of the year, even though they celebrate the significance of the relationship between siblings. There is already a precedents for this. The Hindu holiday of Raksha Bandhan has it's own article[3]. Wikipedia has separate pages for Memorial Day[4] in America and for Remembrance Day[5] in the British Commonwealth nations. Of course, the page for Brothers and Sisters Day should be referenced in the Siblings Day article under the "See Also" section and vice-versa. Information to be added or removed: Siblings Day (a.k.a. National Siblings Day) is a holiday recognized annually in the United States on April 10, [1] [2] and has now spread globally and continues to grow honoring the relationships of siblings. Unlike Mother's Day and Father's Day in the US, it is not federally recognized, though the Siblings Day Foundation (SDF) is working to change this.[19] The commemorative day has been recognized by three US Presidents (Clinton, 2000),(Bush, 2008) and (Obama, 2016). Since 1998, the governors of 49 states have officially issued proclamations to recognize Siblings Day in their state. [19] From its American beginnings the observation has become international. More and more countries, a total of 14, continue or have begun to celebrate Siblings Day on April 10th. They are Australia [5], Brazil [6], Canada [7], Ghana [8], India [9], Ireland [10], Japan [11], New Zealand[12], Nigeria [13], Philippines [14], Singapore[15], South Africa[16], Sweden [17] and United Kingdom [18]. For the past several years, the SDF has been working on establishing a United Nations resolution for an International Siblings Day (a.k.a. World Siblings Day) [1] [3}

History The international holiday was conceived by Claudia Evart to honor the memory of her brother and sister who died at early ages. The Siblings Day Foundation was incorporated in MA in 1997 and achieved non-profit status in 1999. Carolyn Maloney, then the U.S. Representative for New York's 14th congressional district, officially saluted the holiday and introduced it into the official Congressional Record of the United States Congress on April 10, 1997; and in subsequent years 2001, 2005, 2008 and 2019. [19]

Celebration[edit] In the United States, approximately 80% of people have siblings. [19] [20] The holiday is intended to be a celebration of the relationship of brothers and sisters. Examples of commemoration during this observance include giving your sibling a gift (including a surprise gift), a gift card, taking one out for dinner or taking a walk in the park. Non-material examples of observances during this day includes giving hugs to your sibling(s), do something special like a good deed or favor, errand or chore for their brother or sister, enjoying and appreciating their presence in your life][19]

       The Hindu holiday of Raksha Bandhan also celebrates the bond of brothers and sisters, but it is unrelated to the 				         American holiday.
