Carnegie Public Library (Shelbyville, Kentucky) → Shelby County Public Library – Recently a non-logged in editor, User:162.206.222.60, modified the article to put the apparently current name of the library (Shelby County Public Library) first. Their edit was reverted by User:MB, in favor of using the NRHP listing name for the building "Carnegie Public Library", which I basically cannot believe is the actual common name for the library. It seems in this case that the Carnegie-funded building is still the main or sole library building of the current library, and in cases like this in my opinion it is best to have one article about the library or library system and its historic building. I propose moving the article to the common name for the library, while keeping mention of the NRHP name in bold in the lede and while keeping the NRHP name in the NRHP infobox. And expanding the article to cover the current/modern library or library system. Doncram (talk) 05:29, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Doncram, Note that the only mention of the "common name" in the article was the one I added. And note that the library website uses "A Carnegie Library in Shelbyville, Kentucky since 1903" prominently next to "Shelby County Public Library". I really have no objection to either name if the article is expanded to cover the library function independent of the historic building. But if it's just about the building, isn't better to match the sources that are about the historic building. If you are going to expand the article, fine; but if no one writes about the library itself, I still think the article should stay at the present title. MB 05:47, 25 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Support. Here is another source that uses Shelby County Public Library. I've never understood the refusal to use current names for NRHP buildings. Common names can change after 35 years. Also, I don't understand isn't better to match the sources that are about the historic building.
