Requested move 2 March 2023[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. A consensus has formed not to move the article to Death of Shahida Raza. However, no consensus was reached as to whether the subject meets the GNG, or whether this article should instead be merged into 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster per WP:BIO1E. Thus, even though I'm closing the RM discussion specifically, it could still be fruitful to discuss a potential merge more thoroughly at AFD or on a relevant talk page. Shahida RazaDeath of Shahida Raza – The subject is non-notable and doesn't meet with WP:NBASIC and WP:GN to stay on Wikipedia with current title. She is in the news just for the incident of 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster otherwise there is no significance of her as athlete, that's why I proposing it to 'Death of Shahida Raza' and article should be rewritten. • I didn't check the sources cited before moving the article to its current title, and don't have the time to check them now. However, if indeed the subject does not meet notability guidelines, but its death is notable due to the circumstances surrounding it, then I think it'd be more fit to add a paragraph to 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster about her. Hhmmm agree, and off course there is alternate option, to redirect it to 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 13:24, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge to 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster due to WP:BIO1E. Being an athlete does not automatically make Raza notable enough to be singled out for individual coverage over the other victims. sixtynine • whaddya want? • 22:02, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move. News is emerging about her career and life; I just added this from BBC News. She played professionally and for her country, and is getting whole news articles about her individually that make a biography possible. Yngvadottir (talk) 22:26, 2 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Merge. The right place seems to be 2023 Calabria migrant boat disaster. Not enough for a stand-alone page. BoyTheKingCanDance (talk) 03:00, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose move. The subject is receiving individual news coverage and has a notable background as a professional athlete who played for her country. This suggests that the subject's life and career have significant coverage and potential for a biography, and the article can provide valuable information and context for readers interested in the subject. Additionally, it is possible that more information about the subject's life and career may emerge in the future, further strengthening the article's notability. • Oppose move. The subject played at high level in a number of sports, and further news is emerging about her career and life.Yadsalohcin (talk) 09:47, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

I'm going to remove the Il Crotonese reference that doesn't have a date of birth in the text, but shows a picture of an identity card in her name. I had previously seen the same image at another Italian source, but it's original research (neither site repeats the info from the image in the text), and of dubious reliability; note that that other source nonetheless gives her age as 27, as do the preponderance of sources. I hadn't seen a 29 until the AP. (Many of the Italian sources, including Il Crotonese, also say her child is a daughter, which appears to be an error.) I admit a birth year of 1993 makes 2007 as the start of her career seem more plausible, but under WP:BLP, which applies to recent deaths, we need a reliable third-party source, especially since reliable sources disagree on her age.
