Untanned skin[edit]

Reference to "untanned leather" needs to be changed - if it is untanned it is not leather and should read "untanned skin". If it is leather it cannot be untanned. --69.107.99.46 21:27, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An image[edit]

This article would do good if it had an image. I found one on flickr showing an old utensil case covered in beautiful polished shagreen. The image is free to use and distribute if the authors name is mentioned. If you are a member of wikipedia, please upload it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/29995594@N06/2842086378/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.176.52.166 (talk) 05:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's a nice picture, and I'll add it as an external link, but the license isn't compatible with Wikipedia — it's "attribution-noncommercial-noderivatives" but Wikipedia requires the looser license of "attribution" or "attribution-sharealike". See Wikipedia:Upload/Flickr and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Dreamyshade (talk) 18:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Use of genuine shark skin[edit]

  • I heard of a wallet being made of tanned shark skin with the denticles pointing upwards, so that is difficult for a pickpocket to quietly extract it from a pocket because the denticles catch in the pocket lining. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 10:36, 27 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
