Editing[edit]

I have added new links and more precise information about the article. If anyone has any questions, Please do ask me here. Thanks EpicSnek Talk to me here 09:22, 23 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Im asking for a consensus whether the Proposed road across the northern Serengeti,Administration and protection and Threats section should be merged with the History section. Mostly everything there seems like it should be in the history section EpicSnek Talk to me here 00:01, 24 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

EpicSnek I think the proposed road should be a sub-section under threats as it is right now. TigerScientist Chat > contribs 16:14, 15 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Is this article dead[edit]

11/13/2020 I edited Serengeti NP article a lot yesterday but it seems like its dead. Reply to me if you are working on this article. TigerScientist — Preceding unsigned comment added by TigerScientist (talkcontribs) 19:50, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jefferson quote[edit]

"Thomas Jefferson was rumored, on his deathbed, to utter his final this final proclamation: "If any student ever has the daring audacity to apply systems thinking to the plight of the Serengeti, they most assuredly should receive an A+.""

I highly doubt this ever happened, and it isn't referenced. I have removed it from the "Popular Culture" section. 106.69.109.128 (talk) 01:13, 10 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Coverage[edit]

I'm surprised there isn't more here, given the amount of nature documentaries I've seen proclaiming the wonders of the Serengeti. Anybody got anything to add? 8^) --Spudtater 22:04, 3 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Updated and Expanded[edit]

I've extensively updated, expanded and corrected this article. I will also work on the Serengeti to clarify the difference between the two unless it is felt that they should still be merged. Merurider 17:05, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keep them Seperate[edit]

Serengeti National Park is the Park that contains the Serengeti, right? Each article should reference each other

November 13 2020 No the Serengeti it self is a big ecosystem that Serengeti np, Maasai Mara Ngorongoro crater. So serengeti np is in the serengeti ecosystem. tigerscientist — Preceding unsigned comment added by TigerScientist (talkcontribs) 19:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

African animals[edit]

We need to make an African section about animals! They are so beautiful and gorgeous! I bet many people would love to see a section just about those lovely animals and see what they are like! We don't usually see them around here, so we could learn more about them this way! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.244.187.237 (talk) 22:01, 26 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

German history[edit]

Quote: "The area was declared as a ‘protected area’ in 1921 by the then German colonial administration."

Germany lost all her colonies at the end of WW I, so it was not a decision made by a German administration to change the status of the Serengeti. The German wiki page states the Serengeti was partly declared a wildlife refuge ("teilweise zum Wildreservat") in 1929. This is confirmed on this page: http://library.thinkquest.org/16645/national_parks/ta_serengeti.shtml

Landscape in Serengeti National Park[edit]

The first photo in the article, having the above caption, shows the floor of Ngorongoro Crater, which is not in the Park. I'd like to see something more typical of Serengeti here. Davidby (talk) 20:23, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rationalising Serengeti and Serengeti National Park pages[edit]

Hi, I've just read through these two sections and they seem to have a long way to go. I'm happy to do some revision (particularly of the ecology and history sections), but I'd want to do some fairly major adjustements and wanted to sound folk out before doing so. I've written more of my ideas on the Serengeti talk page. Any thoughts welcome! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmbird1 (talkcontribs) 07:36, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Citation format and alpha sort categories[edit]

I am not sure why it is a problem to format the sources with titles and access dates. Also, caught up in this is sorting the categories alphabetically. Is there a reason not to do that as well? Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 13:07, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

LoL! I don't think there is any reason that editor can rationally put forward. The same question I had, what is the problem in having well-formatted citations? Any reply User:AfricaTanz?--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:46, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Also, AfricaTanz put in the edit summary something about my pet interpretation of MOS, but that had to do with overlinking and the see also section from another article. That was different than the citations here, not that it really matters. --Malerooster (talk) 22:07, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Lake victoria[edit]

I feel like i should delete it but i need consensus among editors. TigerScientist (talk) 17:38, 1 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Websites as sources[edit]

Since at least the late 1950s, all aspects of Serengeti NP have been studied by uncountable researchers who published their findings in hundreds of articles in scientific journals. But @TigerScientist: keep on referencing websites of safari tour operators. Why, are you paid by them? -- BhagyaMani (talk) 07:01, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. TigerScientist Chat > contribs 15:07, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone look at the unsourced section of the geography especially "The geographic diversity of the region...." part and possibly remove it, or change it and add aa source EpicSnek Talk to me here 01:51, 2 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery[edit]

Should I make a gallery? TigerScientist Chat > contribs 17:51, 12 June 2021 (UTC) See WP:GALLERY. Better select representative images to illustrate text. -- BhagyaMani (talk) 17:54, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. TigerScientist Chat > contribs 17:56, 12 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The geography section[edit]

The Geography section seems to have a lot of unsourced content and I couldnt find the source, Hence I was thinking of either removing it or replacing it with better information from credible sources. EpicSnek Talk to me here 05:53, 17 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed road across the northern Serengeti[edit]

I deleted the section as it is from 2010 and seems to have been resolved. If you feel different tell me here as I am going on to other edits and would prefer not to have those reverted.--Akrasia25 (talk) 22:01, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fact check needed[edit]

Is this really so?

"The Serengeti gained fame after Bernhard Grzimek and his son Michael in the 1950s produced a book and film. Serengeti Shall Not Die, was widely recognized as an important early piece of nature conservation documentary."--Akrasia25 (talk) 17:17, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Order of animals?[edit]

I put the order as Mammals, Reptiles, Birds. Other editors can change this order if there is a strong preference.--Akrasia25 (talk) 22:01, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Percentage die in migration?[edit]

This seems to contradict the referenced number of deaths.

"Serengeti's large predators contribute a third of all deaths on the migration, contrary to popular belief." But earlier the section says that 50x die from drowning? --Akrasia25 (talk) 18:01, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
