Poor quality article[edit]

If you look at other Wiki pages covering National Monuments, they are actually informative and don't usually cover any of the issues covered in the extant article. The article right now looks like it was written by a Washington lobbiest group, and it's not looking very encyclopedic.

Also the latest edits to the extant article are only marginally better than the previous text, there is the addition of a Fox "News" citation which is at best an opinion piece, and the "San Gabriel Mountains Forever" "C" Street lobbiest front group isn't a reliable reference.

I'd like to suggest: (1) The unreliable references be removed and be replaced with suitable citations and references and (2) the unreferenced text (such as the text which talks about either large-scale opposition (previous edits) or minimum opposition (current edit)) be sourced to citations and references actually showing evidence of what the text is suggesting, and (3) that existing National Monument Wiki pages be used as a guide for showing what traditionally goes in to pages covering National Monuments.

The article is a new one, obviously, so I understand that there needs to be not only more work on it, but that a broad spectrum of editors need to assist with the page, specifically to avoid having the page look like it does now. No offense to anyone working on this, I just think that the page is low quality when our new National Monument deserves professional coverage like other National Monuments have. Thanks! Added date of first NRA proposal[edit]

I just added the date of Hilda's proposal for the National Parks Service to review establishing a National Recreation Area as the year 2003 however if I understand the history, she was looking at getting better protection years before that and only set her proposal to the NPS "officially" in 2003. I believe that that date is accurate enough yet if any editor feels a better reference / citation is suitable, please replace mine with what you have. Thanks! A Large Chunk of San Gabriel Mountain Was Excluded[edit]

About a third of the forest was excluded. This information should be included in this article. See article.. scpr.org article with responses from John Heil of Forest Service. SWP13 (talk) 17:23, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Costs $5 per day to use San Gabriel Mountain monument[edit]

Article missed the cost. Cost to visit should be mentioned in the article. After San Gabriel Mountain became a monument, hikers have to pay $5 per day to purchase an adventure pass. Most visitors are local Los Angeles area residents. Was it free prior to becoming a monument? 2600:1012:B00F:2A22:5326:FB47:B72C:2C00 (talk) 18:07, 29 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, there has been an Adventure Pass requested for people to purchase for something near 15 years prior to the Monument. SoftwareThing (talk) 14:17, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Our 23rd president[edit]

The extant text reads our 23rd president which assumes that the reader is a United States citizen. This should be changed to "23rd President of the United States" if we want the text to be non-specific as to reader. SoftwareThing (talk) 14:16, 8 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
