Wong Mew Choo record[edit]

Has the person who listed her 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medal in the 2010 Updates section also updated her record against Wong Mew Choo? ("Record against other top rated opponents" section). The section says it was updated on 31 August 2010, so may not have been edited, but editor might have missed updating the date.VishalB (talk) 21:15, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Need help[edit]

I uploaded this image prematurely without much copyright knowledge. Please delete it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Saina_Nehwal_with_the_Indian_national_flag,_Jun_17th,_2012.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.210.129.88 (talk) 07:02, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Record against other players.[edit]

The scoring record format is not clear. for example Wang Yihan 0–5 means saina 0 and Yihan 5 and not the other way round. This may be a bit confusing to readers of the article.

Was Saina born in Hissar or Dhindar?[edit]

Saina's birthplace needs to be verified for factual correctness. My understanding is that she was born in Hissar (and not Dhindar, Hissar as given in beginning of the article). Incidentally, her father belongs to Dhindar, District Ghaziabad, UP, India and it seems to have been mixed up with her birthplace. 42.110.115.224 (talk) 06:43, 4 August 2012 (UTC) Rajesh Jain, Ghaziabad[reply]

Revamp needed[edit]

I think this article needs a complete revamp. There is sufficient information in here that would make it a GA grade article if properly organised. The following are my suggestions

  • The summary section is too long. Most of that information should be included in the inner sections.
  • The tabular career record section should be moved to the end of the article.
  • The career overview should be changed from a bullet like structure to a prose like structure.

Does anybody else have any suggestions/objections? Please let me know as I am intending to rewrite this. Machinist 88 (talk) 19:42, 31 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Start it, good ideas. --Florentyna (talk) 23:54, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

2009 Indian open Grand prix gold[edit]

Factually incorrect: Saina did not win the 2009 India open Grand prix gold as mentioned in the article . It was won by Pi Hongyan [1]. Saina won the 2009 India open Grand prix and not India open Grand prix Gold . Can somebody authenticate my claim so that i can go and edit the same..

Also i have made 2 grammatical modifications in the Career Summary section; changed the tense from Present perfect to Past . — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nsaisundar (talkcontribs) 10:58, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Correct, it must be changed (regarding the India Open GP and GPG). --Florentyna (talk) 11:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have just corrected 2 vandalism on the page about her age and coach. please watch the page to protect it. Thanks User:Gopaalan — Preceding undated comment added 13:33, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This page is about a former World No. 1 in women's singles badminton, so, it should be protected against vandalism. Anyone should not be able to edit it. GreenAlienO 21:38, 21 December 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Serectrus (talkcontribs)

Removal of the list of career titles from the fact box[edit]

I feel the presence of career titles in the left side quick fact box makes it long and cluttered. This is also irrelevant as the same information is captured in the tables towards the end. We could keep the important ones like Olympics and Asian Games there, but the entire list of super series titles is unnecessary. Most of the badminton players pages adhere to this philosophy which makes their pages look more elegant and professional. See Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei. What do you guys think? Machinist 88 (talk) 13:36, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Machinist 88: Support - The pages of her peers don't mention all career titles in their infoboxes either: Li Xuerui, Wang Shixian, Carolina Marín. More importantly, the purpose on Manual of Style on Infoboxes states "...wherever possible, present information in short form, and exclude any unnecessary content", so I'd say be bold! ← scribbleink talk 20:52, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Shinjoya. Before removing the BLP violation, I did check the source mentioned by you. She states that "All of them are close to me because most are Jats ...", but where does she state that she herself is a Jat? - NitinMlk (talk) 18:37, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NitinMlk, You need to read the full quote:

"The Haryana Government has in the last two years offered several incentives-the highest prize money for medal winners at the Commonwealth Games and a car. This is a welcome sign for sportswomen as it gives them new recognition. All of them are close to me because most are Jats and some of them have told me that I, only 20, am an inspirational icon for them because of the traditional mindset about girls and the khaps that treat women as inferior."

I would say that even if its not proper self-identification, but still, thats quite close to it. She says that all of other athletes are close to her because they are Jats (implies she is also a Jat). Then she uses the term khap which is essentially a Jat concept. Apart from this source, there are plenty of other sources which describe Saina as a Jat. So considering all these points, we should not remove her caste from Early Life section. Shinjoya (talk) 18:49, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shinjoya, we cannot do WP:SYNTHESIS or WP:Original Research because that's what you are doing here. I know there are many reliable sources which mention her as Jat, but we need self-identification, which is missing here. Thanks. - NitinMlk (talk) 19:00, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you. @Shinjoya did a WP:SYNTHESIS and has reached an WP:OR. This statement should be removed as it is a clear violation of WP:BLP, unless and until an WP:RS is provided that clearly states it. -- DaxServer (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
