Saifuddin's family name[edit]

Saifuddin is Mandailing descent from Southern Tapanuli area of North Sumatera, Indonesia. As an Mandailing person and as they are in other sub-Batak cultures in Sumatera, usually one bears their clan or family names. In this case, Saifuddin is part of Nasution clan and uses Nasution in his full name.

I understood Saifuddin Nasution is Malaysia citizen, nows lives and works in Malaysia, within Malay World (Alam Melayu). I am wondering in this Wikipedia English, if Saifuddin should always be called in Malay names rules by his given names? Can one calls him by his family name, Nasution?
